Seat comfort? An important aspect...
Do the seats in the 3-series start to hurt your lower back?
Ok, don't own a 3-series, yet I am probably going to purchase one (330xi) in the very near future. I own a Volvo V70 XC, and it is THE MOST comfortable car I've ever driven in (in regards to the seats). I recently drove a 540i for over 2 hours, and by the 30 min. mark, my lower back was hurting, as it seems to in just about every car. I haven't gotten the chance to sit in a 3-series for an extended period of time, so can anyone tell me how comfortable the seats are (or can they be made more comfortable by getting certain packages?) It just seems that a certain aspect of practicality is somehow left out in all of this; maybe a Volvo C70 is my answer if seat-comfort is important to me. any input? thanks, Matt |

There is a really cool feature that comes with the 3-series premium package which is the 4-way lumbar support in the seat for your back.

I haven't sat in a car that has one, is it much more comfortable? Do you have a bimmer w/ this option? Or does anyone else who can let me know?
Also, does anyone else even feel his/her lower back hurting after a long drive? A close friend of mine was able to relate but maybe we're just strange. ![]() thanks, Matt |

I own a 2002 330i with the premium package, and I find the seats to be very comfortable. With the four way power lumbar, you can guage how much support you have for your back, and you can move that support from your extreme lower back to your upper back. Once you find the correct seating position, it is an extremely comfortable car. The only problem that I have, being 6'3", is that my left leg does not have enough room to remain comfortable for that long. I often have to move it around. However, in a small sports sedan, this is what you have to expect.

I have a 95 325is with sport seats that are the most comfortable I've come across. I especially like the pull out knee bolster that gives me extra support under my knees. Hence, taking the pressure off my back.
