Does anyone know how much difference there is visually between the 1990 Ferrari 641 and 1991 Ferrari 642 when the bodies are lifted off to reveal the engine, gearbox, front and rear suspension etc. because I am thinking about the possibility of making a 1/24 Ferrari 641 with a Revell/Protar 641 exterior and Rosso 642 mechanicals. The Revell/Protar kit does not come with a detailed interior or mechanicals and I want a detailed model to go with my Ferrari F50.
Revell Ferrari 641 Rosso Ferrari 642 TIA Matt.

There's basically no difference in the monococque or engine, just some additional carbon fiber around the front of the cockpit, the radiator ducts were moved forwards slightly.

Re: Ferrari 641 and 642 differences
Mechanicaly there dosen't seem to be a great many differences between a late 641/2 and an early 642. The front torsion bar arrangement looks identical. Slight repackaging of some components seems to have occured at the rear, the 641 being 'tighter' aerodynamically at the back. Formula One cars change so quickly many different configurations of individual cars existed at some point..
I'd say it is doable, but why not make the 641 as a curbside and the 642 as full detail? If you are ofter pictures of the 641 I have scans of the Formula Prefect manual, about 5 Meg worth. |

The reason I want to make a fully detailed 641 is because in 1996 the British car programme Top Gear raced the then new Ferrari F50 against an ex-Alain Prost Ferrari 641 and it was a very special and memorable moment for me. Anyway I thought it would be nice to have detailed scale models of both cars.

Thought there had to be a reason of some kind. I even seem to recall reading that the F50 donk is based on a detuned Tippo 036ish F1 engine out of the 641.

Yeah, I think they use pretty much the same engine from what I recall of Top Gear saying, that's why they raced them together. I'm too young to remember anything else (17).
