Anderson man, arrested 400 times, sentenced to 17 years

ANDERSON, IND. -- A 74-year-old man who has been arrested at least 400 times was sentenced Monday to 17 years in prison on drunken driving charges.

Virldeen Redmon of Anderson was arrested in July while driving even though his license had been suspended for life following scores of alcohol-related offenses.

Redmon's latest conviction was on charges of driving while intoxicated, endangering a person and driving while suspended.

Police have been arresting him since 1947, including three times since June. Redmon has had his driver's license suspended for life five times.

In 1996, a judge sentenced him to 9-1/2 years in prison for driving under a lifetime suspension and public intoxication. The judge reduced the sentence in 2001 and released him after a doctor testified that Redmon suffered from health problems.

Good; 400 times is ridiculous, you'd think he would have learned a lesson. He'll probably die in prison, which makes me feel no remorse; It's his own fault and deserves what he gets.

Obviously, if suspending his license for "life" didn't work once, it probably ain't gonna work the other 4 times.

So, obviously, if he's had enough years to be arrested over 400 times, that probably means he never spent any time behind bars (well obviously, he spent time at bars though). So I'm wondering what he was charged with... I'd think that after only a few times they would, at the very least, give him probation, and if he violated the probation (which he was sure to do), he would automatically get sent to prison. So why didn't that happen?! AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!! Damn legal system.

That's Crazy....the original charge for my D-dub (4th degree misdemeanor) was $1,000 dollars and 30 days in Jail, but i got in Minnesota and their assholes about drunk driving over there...good news tho...my buddy knew the mayor, who knows the prosecutor, and I had it knocked down to $500 and no days in jail.

400 times.. thats a little crazy i mean wouldnt they send him to jail for good after only a few times? -.- stupid laws you have.

sentenced him to 17 years... thats not enough. but i guess it wouldnt take much for the old man anyway.
so he deserves what he got.

Judge in 1996 should be disbarred. 17 years for over 400 dwi's. it's about time. If you take away someone's d.l. and he stills driving. land him jail and when he comes out, he's still drinking and driving. 17 years is not to bad.

400 arrests for drunken driving and not a single fatality. Stupid society should be letting those who are obviously GOOD at pissy driving to keep doing it.

That works out to 5 1/2 arrests for every year of his life, now assuming that he couldnt be arrested until he was 18 that makes it a little over 7 arrests a year.

with my luck, if i got caught DUI, they'd send me straight to federal "pound-me-in-the-ass prison"
