This is wierd and probably not related to the head. Put a new head gasket on a 91 Civic DX 1500cc auto trans. Ran fine. Took out on road and it ran fine for a mile or so at 20mph. Punched the accelerator and the engine died. Restarted fine and it idles fine but it will NOT accelerate. Even under no load. Even manually by grabbing the cable under the hood. Will idle for hours. Will sort of drive along at 1mph at idle on a flat. Won't pul even a slight slight grade. The choke is staying shut, but even if you open it, it still won't rev up. Though it does run a little better. Definitely loading up with fuel...lots of unburned gas out the exhaust. Engine code says "oxgen" but no other codes and this one won't repeat. Timing seems fine. Any ideas???

somethig is either not hooked up, not makeing full contact, or hooked up wrong. re-check everything you disconected, even unpluging and repluging if your not sure.

i wonder if you're running on 3 cylinders
you can check that easily by CAREFULLY disconnecting one spark plug at a time from the engine to see if it makes any difference in how the engine sounds if it sounds the same whether one of the wires is connected or not, you know that cylinder isn't doing anything for you just a thought, kind of a general thing to check |

Re: wierd engine problem after new head gasket
Idles on all four cylinders. No codes.
My thinking is that it's a fuel problem...either too much fuel pressure ( how do you check that?) or th ethrottle position sensor is bad. No luck yet. |
