Headlight Removal

Is it possible to remove the headlights on a 98 eclipse gs w/o removing the bumper cover.

Re: Headlight Removal

it's not that hard to get the bumper off. i just did it when i took the amber inserts out of my headlights. 2 bolts in the wells and the 5 or 6 bolts next to the hood latch and it popped right off... i did it by myself too..

The problem is for many cars (like mine) every single bolt breaks when you take the bumper cover off. Thats why after the FMIC install, my bumper is held on by 4 purple zip ties... It also makes it easy to pop off when I get towed or traliered, rather than tearing the bumper cover. See this thread for funny bumper cover stuff, you can laugh at my expense.

What I did to get the headlight out, and make it easy to remove at the track, is reach in from the engine bay side and cut the lower mount off with a steak knife. Hacksaw blade with no handle BS on it works well too. Then you just have the 2 side and one top bolts.

I was late to pick up the GF, and she was bitching on the phone, so I wasnt really paying attention The best part is those guys are such good friends they didnt even call and tell me about it until they were done with thier little photo session, teabaggin it, etc. I was 20 minutes away, and had crossed 3 towns... Bastards.

Re: Headlight Removal

From talking to the guys that just recently dismantled my car to repaint, the front bumper is a SOB to remove. According to the guy doing the teardown, you have to remove the headlights to remove the bumper and you have to remove the bumper to remove the headlights. He said that the eclipse's have one of the hardest front bumpers to remove. I can't offer any help, but you may want to contact a body shop and see if they will tell you the best way to do it.

I have the same problem, plus I want to convert to HID's, how much are they for 98-99 dsm's anyways?

u have to take the front bumper off to remove the headlights and u wont break any bolts its way easy.but u have to remove some of of the plastic inside where the wheel is to get to one of the bolts dont jsut rip the bumper off when u cant find it.oh and u gotta take off the fog lights first.
