Lower control arm?

I have a 99 wrangler sport w/ 72K. Supposedly the lower control arm is bad and it makes aloud bang that you can feel in the driver's seat. Is this hard to replace, and should I be driving on it like that? The dealer says its fine, but it seems to drive pretty wild now. Thanks,

Re: Lower control arm?

I'm a little confused here, you say the lower control arm may be bad but the Dealer says it's ok ? What do you mean by " it makes a loud bang " ? Unless it was damaged by during a rock encounter I would suspect something else may be at fault such as a broken / worn shock or a broken spring. Check the ball joints too, shouldn't be to hard to find the cause of thei problem.

I took it to the dealer and the lower control arm is getting replaced this week. They said it was ok to drive on until then. It makes a loud bang in the front end like something is loose, but I couldn't ever find anything. It is really bad when going up inclines especially. The dealer's jeep mechanic is a good friend of mine and says that everything else looks ok. I'm hoping this solves the problem.

WTF...ball joint on a lower control arm... no such animal. Now there are rubber bushings on either end can go bad. Why are you having the dealer do it, do it yourself man its only two bolts, not hard. Anyways you can replace the bushings in the controls arm seperatly, save ya some money.

Yep- That's what it was. The bushing had gone bad and it was metal on metal. It was under warranty, so they got to handle it. Thanks.
