Eenie meinie meini moe...

Man I can't decide. I am replacing my stolen mp3 player for my dash, and I know I want to get it from crutchfield because they are the best. I have narrowed it down to three contenders: Panasonic MXE CQ-HX1083, Pioneer DEH-P7500MP, and the Sony CDX-M850MP. All three have their strong points. The Panasonic is just plain cool: it has touchscreen controls and can play loud and clear, plus it has the most security features, but almost no sound shaping or control at all. The Pioneer is a balance of all qualities. And the Sony has incredible sound shaping controls, and a great display, but lacks somewhat in the sound quality area. There are other things about them, I was wondering what you all's opinions were on any or all of these head units. They are the best I found for under $400. My old one was only $285, so I am not going to spen twice as much to replace my old one. And unfortunately they do not make it anymore anyway.

So, opinions? Knowledge you would like to share on the subject? Please, I really am having a hard time deciding and need to pick one pretty soon!!

Thanks for info,

DW

Sony and Panasonic both suck. Out of your three choices I would go with the DEH-P7500MP. I have the Premier DEH-P750MP and it's a great head unit. It's easy to use, looks great and the EQ controls are pretty good.

Re: Eenie meinie meini moe...

I agree with GScivic7 Panasonic and Sony both suck. My brother had a sony head unit and had nothing but problems with it. He switched to Pioneer Premier and has had it for like 2 years now and no problems what so ever. I would go with Pioneer any day. IMO.

well, I have heard that Sony is not good, being problems with operation and such, but I havn't heard anything about Panasonic except for "I'ts cool" and "It sucks". Why? What sucks about it? Opinions do help, but without some reasoning behind it I am finding it hard to use the opinion to make a decision. I know that the Pioneer would be a solid unit, and that's the only reason I am considering it. It doesn't look good at all for my car and it's numbers don't stack up. But I hear good things....

I am leaning toward the Panasonic, because I like the ghost screen and it has really great specs. I didn't have alot of sound controls on my Jensen, so the fact that the Panasonic doesn't either doesn't sway me very much. Unless I hear something more solid against Panasonic, I will probably get that one. One guy already said get it, two guys said Pioneer, another said Sony, and one guy even suggested an Alpine!

Opninons are appriciated, but some facts would help too.

Edit: am considering the Alpine CDA-9811 now! Awesome specs!

Re: Eenie meinie meini moe...

Two of my friends have had Panasonic headunits and they got rid of them within 6 months. They don't have good sound shaping features. If you want some clean music you need to have some EQ controls which Panasonic doesn't have very good ones.

Re: Eenie meinie meini moe...

thank you GScivic7!!

I thought too that sound shaping controls would make a big difference, but in all honesty the Jensen had NO sound shaping controlls except for "bass boost on/off" and I'll be damned if that unit didn't sound great to me. And I remember everyone hating on the Jensen line saying it was crap. One guy though swore on his life that this model was awesome and at a great price and I bought it and was pretty damn happy. Happy with crutchfield and whoever that guy was (ps-thanks dude!). So if the only complaint against Panasonic is that it doesnt have good sound shaping controls, then I think it wins. The alpine and Pioneer just plain aren't cool looking. They would look like donkey balls in my car. The sony and Panasonic would look good, and since I have had trouble with sony HU's before, that leaves the Panasonic.

Your input has been helpful, I plan on ordering the Panasonic this weekend unless I hear something that really sways me in a different direction.

uhm....I'm glad i could help lol. You must really like listening to muddy sound Hope you're happy with the Panasonic. BTW: check out www.thezeb.com, I bet they'll be able to kill crutchfield's price. If you're going to buy from crutchfield, go to Sears or Circuit City and buy from them so that you don't have to have the hassle of mailing the unit back if you have problems with it. The price is going to be the same from all three places just about.
