Spray Liners

Hi all. I was curious about spray-in bedliners. My wife and I seem to be at Home Depot almost every week picking up lumber, plants, concrete, etc for home projects. We currently have a plastic drop-in liner and I was wondering what the advantages and disadvantages are to spray liners. Will lumber or other sharp edged items tear up the spray liner? Can you slide heavy items easily towards the cab (with a plastic liner everything slides conveniently)? Any advice/opinions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The advantages to spray in liners include better looks, easier to clean, and higher resale value. The only disadvantage that I've heard of is that drop in bedliners have their own backbone to them so you have less chance of bending the bottom of your box. As far as sliding things, I think most spray-ins aren't going to slide as well as your drop in liner. I've had spray-ins on my past two trucks and one was rubberized and the other is more slick. My first one(a Tuff liner, similar to Rhino Liner) was real soft and didn't slide much and had a lot of shock resistance, but it lost its color very quickly and didn't look very good once it was about a year old. My new liner(Similar formula to LineX) I got to prevent scratches and look good. It slides a little easier than the first liner and looks much better. If you lift up your drop in liner, chances are you have dirt and gunk underneath, also if it's anything like my friend's liner it holds water in the bed. These are both solved with a spray in. As far as tearing, most professional spray ins have a lifetime warranty.

I had a spray-on bedliner done to my 2003 Z-71 and I like it. It comes with a life time warrenty, if it get's scratch, gouged, or damaged from anything except an auto accident, they will repair it for free. The one disadvantage is things will not slide in easy. The other side of this is things will not slide around as much when driving. The company that installed mine gave me a bottle of spray cleaner that makes the liner look like new after application. The main drawback from the drop-in liners is moisture can be trapped between the liner and the truck bed. The liner will rub through the paint after time and the bed will begin to rust. One thing that will make your bed look like new if it is a sprayed in (I have a Line-X) is a Tire shine spray. That will make it shine and make it a bit slippery so things are easier to slide in and out.

Things may slide in and out easily, but they will slide around while you are driving. Linex, rhino and sprayliner all have similar capabilities in anti-skid. I went with spraliner because it cost me less.
