gxe neck snapper

98 gxe with 58k on the odo auto tranny. bought it at 50k from aunt. the car has always shifted a little firm but now it slams into gear. i mean it is better than slipping like most auto trannies but this is an extremely firm/rough shift. keep checking the level with the dipstick color and level never changes. it seems to be worse when i come to a complete stop from some speed as if the fluid is being drained away causing the rough/firm shifts but the fluid level is always fine and the color is good. do the maxima auto trannies just shift like they have shift kits or is there another hidden problem? thanks guys. ps: this car is bone stock driven granny style until 50k.
