intermitant wipers

I have a 93 Sub. and the windshield wipers are acting up. Some days they work fine then they operate sporaticaly. Ex. I go to use the washer, and the just keep going back and forth and are not spraying. or I will put them on intermitant and they will go 2-3 wipes and the pause like normal the 2-3 wipes. or they just won't shut off even though the switch is turned to the off position, or the will stop in the middle of my windshield. Any ideas?? This really driving me crazy.

Thanks,

Jim

Re: intermitant wipers

Go To A Gm Dealer. It Is The Circuit Board Attached To The Wiper Motor Under The Hood. It Is A Common Problem With These Gm Dinosaurs. It Most Likely Is A Recall Item.

You would think that by 1993 or 6 that gm would have:
a) brakes that are not spongy and last longer than 17,400 miles
b) included multiport fuel injection. my 1988 mercury had it. spell that F_O_R_D
c) that you could flash your headlights, at oncoming cars, with your turn indicator stalk when you headlight switch was off.
d) they could build a windshield wiper circuit board that did not fail in about every suburban that they made.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Re: intermitant wipers

There is a recall out. BAD NEWS, it starts in 1994 even though the problem started in mid 1993.

Easy to fix, if you're handy. Email me

The problem is on the circuit board solder mask, the main connector has a cold solder (wich causes the intermittent wiping), so the only way to fix it is getting a solder gun and make a new solder joint.

I pulled the mother board off and found 4 broken points that were easily re-soldered. Thanks for the info.

Just remove the electric control card in the motor box and re-solder the solder runs. Take one screw off, loosen the two others and the cover come off without any fuss. The card just slides out and you can disconnect the cable from there. There are real small cracks and cold solder that are the problem. I did mine in about 30 minutes Start to finish. I saw this on a previous post with a link to some nice pics. Pretty easy to do. 928 388 0064

Re: intermitant wipers

FYI... I am new to this forum. I have a few problems popping up wiht my 97 Suburban that I have owned for the last 7 years. I will be asking lots of questions in other threads.

I wanted to chime in on this one though... I had repaired my board twice before, and then a few weeks ago, the wipers started acting up again. Then today, my wife said they stopped altogether. I got home and found that the only way to get them to move was to wiggle the wiring harness that goes into the module. Took board out and found yet another solder joint failure. I made a jumper, but still worked only with wiggle of wires. I found brand new replacement board at AutoZone for $27. I think it is worth the money over the repair, as it also has a limited lifetime warranty from them.
