Ok i need to know from some one if i need to get a new engine. Right now i have a 97 2.4 with 125,000 miles on it. can i do any thing to get more power out of it or do i need to upgrade to a new engine. if so what engine do i need?

2.4 meanign its a z24? i'm new here but i know quite a bit abou cars and you can get alot more power out of your cavy the most expencive thign would be to swap for a new engine but you could geta turbo for your 2.4 now and a cold air intake would get you quite a bit of power also a nice exuast system would get you pretty far. i'm trying ot think of more thgins but thats all i can think of for now besides low resistance spark plug wires and some good quality spark plugs and a header sory for all the un organized list but i'm just thinking of these as i go well i hope this helps and i'll cya around

The 2.4 can be a strong runner. It is designed better than the old 2.5 and you can't even compare it to the 2.2.
I have a 2.4 that I picked up for a project (I have many projects) that I am parts searching for. I plan to convert it to a timing belt set up (so the water pump won't be such a pain to replace) and possibly a roots-type super charger. A turbo will make the biggest difference, but you really have to beef up the fuel delivery system, that is no big deal. There are superchargers available too. I think G.M. Performance Parts offers a good set of cams for it.
I know some dude that built his up to handle a turbo, installed the performance cams and did a few other tricks and came out w/something just over 400h.p. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

2.4's came with a quad cam or twin cam. If you port your throttle body , upper intake manifold , lower intake manifold and port polish the exhaust ports with some nice open headers and a cold air intake you should easily gain up to 50hp+ on a quad cam 30hp+ twin cam. If your 2.4 cav is a standard transmission , find a light flywheel and a sporty clutch , this will make a bigger difference in revs and your motors use of bhp . or simple put , it moves quicker. Now the new ecotec 2.2 has a hell of alot more possabilities for making hp. I hear GM came out with a line of engine toys. They say a kit is available for 1200hp or 1500hp , not sure which. If thats true , it should become cheap and easy for future mods. Wait awhile for the cheap BIG stuff to come out , you wont be sorry.

My 2000 Grand Am has over 130,000 kms on it and i plan to drive it for years to come , with engine mods installed.
