Hey guys, first post on the forum. I just traded my 2003 Silverado Z71 on a 2003 Mustang GT. 5 speed, bullitt wheels, yada yada. Now time for the mods. I knew my truck inside and out, but I haven't a clue where to start on this thing. Exhaust, cold air, 160 deg thermo, headers, suspension (lower would be nice), and what else?
Also... what are some really good websites for shopping for parts? Thanks, Pat |

Well it sounds like your on the right track.
First, new gears will really wake up that higher reving mod motor. Either 3.73's or 4.10's depending on personal preference. Next would be a better exhaust. Headers, high flow cats, and a good cat back. I would really advise staying away from a 160* t-stat!

Do your homework, read, read, read. Knowledge is power. Muscle Mustang, 5.0, and Super Ford taught me the majority of what I know. Listen to the Mustang guys, most enjoy passing on what they know. Remember a motor is just a big air pump, more air in, more air out=more horsepower. Focus on gears, induction and exhaust. These are basic mods and you can't go wrong as long as you plan well. A long list of bolt ons can make 100 aditional hp, but simply bolting on a 8lb Vortech or a NOS stage I will do the same thing. Just depends on personal perferance and cash flow. Point to remember CHEAP, FAST, GOOD pick two because you can't have all three so dig into those pockets for quality parts and do it right the first time and it will help alot (labor is expensive) to learn to turn a wrench yourself. Good luck. 5o

Re: Traded my 2003 Silverado for a Mustang... time for mods...
160* t-stat can actually make the car run warmer on hot days, because the stat will be opening and closing more quickly. This will not allow the coolant to stay in the radiator long enough to dissipate heat before it cycles through the motor again. It may also cause a "closed loop condition" in the EEC unit, because of the fact the stat will not allow the motor to reach proper operating temp on cooler days.

Re: Traded my 2003 Silverado for a Mustang... time for mods...
man u made a bad mistake...
Mustang suck bad...they can run only after you put thousands and thousands of dollars..I dont think they were even built to race! They have weak engines(a new 4.6 260hp,too weak for the size),no independent rear suspension, and they are really heavy.. You should have gotten a Nissan 350Z,now thats a car..N/a 3.5l V6, 287hp,14.1 1/4 mile stock! Man you should have red nissan forums before you made this big mistake... |

Nacho... suck one. I test drove a 350Z (the touring model) and hated it. For a 6'2" guy like me, it was like a go cart. Plus being a pilot, and in the military, it has zero usefull space inside like I need. And there is no replacement for displacement. Don't get me wrong, it's a great car... for your girlfriend. I'll stick with good old fashion american muscle, not over priced import junk. And for the record yes I've owned both Honda and Nissans. And a little math... 2003 Mustang GT, 18 grand. 2003 350Z 30 grand. With the 12 grand left over... how many ponies do you think I can pull from this V8? Yeaaaaaaaah. Thats what I thought.
Oh... and for a whole extra 27 horsepower that the 350Z has, lets look at the torque numbers. I could go on, but your '91 sentra can't back up your trash talking anyway... so whats the point? I'm a car guy...so I can appreciate anything... but again... suck one. Last edited by Patmack18; 12-03-2003 at 07:15 PM. |

No replacement for displacement...
This is one of the funniest quotes ive ever heard... Hey man,a mustang GT,wouldnt handle 1/2 of what a 350z can handle.. with a 3.5l engine,it pushes 27 more hp than a 4.6 mustang!I see those STi's producing 300hp out of just 2.4l and turbo, and i see a 4.6 throw out 260...how sad...the 350 has independent suspension, somethin ford barely heard of,cause a solid rear axle is not the right thing for track..Let's see,a fair comparison... A 03' v6 mustang v.s. a 03' v6 350z,who will win?? dont make me bring the nissan people in here...

AAHAHAHA, a nissan, NOW THATS the most pussyest car i've ever seen in my life.
on the mustang, my knowledge of newer cars isn't so great, i would try to loose some weigh first, they are a bit on the heavyer side stock (fast never the less though), after that i would go for gears, headers(with a new exhaust system), better intake and throttle bodys(which gets me think how cool a carbed 03 mustang would be), and new pullys, then you can start getting in on the heavyer side of things. Good job on the trade |

Re: Traded my 2003 Silverado for a Mustang... time for mods...
You're preaching to the choir dude... I've owned all more cars than I car to count. And again you can't compare a GT to an STi. The STi is 12 grand more AND blown. Lets dump 12K into a GT and add a turbo or super charger. You're comparing apples and oranges. Come back when you know what you're talking about.
PS... you think the current gen Z's are cool? I had a '96 Twin Turbo 300Z that would maul the current gen... |

I always wanted a '93 5.0 LX. That would be a fun car to have as a 2nd set of wheels and a project.
Back to my second question. Where are the best places online to get the aftermarket goodies? |
