My car tranny broke, need advice.
Aiight, my auto tranny went out after like 1 month of driving the car. So now sense the trany's wrecked i'm going over to a T-5. I know some of the stuff i need for the change but if anyone knows some more stuff i would appreciate it.
What i know i need-Flywheel. Clutch pressure plate and throw-out bearing. Pilot bearing. Clutch cable. And the clutch pedal assembly w/ a shifter and knob. But i'm pretty sure there's something missing and i cant put my finger on it. I wanna know i got everything so i dont have to stop in the middle of the process. Also will my driveshaft fit with that tranny? Any help appreciated. BTW- How much tougher is a "World Class" T-5 than a regular T-5? |

Bell housing.
How much hp do you have. A stock T5 should be ok for a 5.0 with moderate mods. Also your auto drive shaft should be just fine even though it's weighted compared to a manuals d/s. Although I would suggest an alum one though.

World class T-5s have a different gear ratio, and are rated somewhere around 325 pounds of torque. If you plan on driving hard, ever upgrading the heads, or running slicks/sticky street tires (or all of the above, which is usually the case), use at least a Tremec 3550. T-5's of any kind are not known for reliability under hard use, so why drop a grand into a timebomb?

Tremec TKO, the only choice. If you are going to do it, do it right the first time.

Thanks for everything yall. I'm guessing my car has about 227 horsepower (Flywheel)...lol. Bumped timing, K&N, Flowmaster 2-chamber, off-road h-pipe, and that's all. Thanks for the advice on the Tremec's, but with an $6.50 an hour job (i'm 16), i dont think i'll have the grand for the heads, or $400 for the slicks, or however much it costs for the tremec's. Now for driving hard....only when i race, i usually baby it otherwise. Anyway's, thanks for the advice.
BTW- Have any of you ever installed a T-56? I REALLY like six-speeds and i figure if their as good as the Tremec's then i could drop one of those in their after i rip out the T-5. But ONLY if their as good or better than the Tremec's. |
