Angry 97 rodeo problem(s)

truck was fine for about a month after purchase then i took it in to be checked out/serviced by dealer who told me everything was fine then a week later the night mare started:
alt/batt light thing (hear about this problem alot) replaced both batt and alt(reman) and it was great for about a week then alt/batt light came back so i checked voltage(it was low) replaced alt again(it lasted several days) took it back to dealer to check electrical sys for shorts and such(they say the problem is alt and tell me ALL reman alt are garbage told me to buy new from them for $386.00) replaced alt again(reman) lasted about a 2 weeks so i decided to let a real mech work on the problem went to shop that specializes in electrical repairs they say they can't find any shorts either and replace alt with one of their premium alts(they told me the whole dealer quality better than reman is hogwash spouted by dealers trying to sell parts/ i believe that because i've had a reman alt in my mitsubishi for the last 9 Years which is longer than the oem lasted/ ok back to the nightmare)that alt lasted 2.5 weeks it has since been replaced and no more batt light
now there is a new problem during deceleration tach go to 0 and truck eventually shuts off but if i hit the gas pedal quick enough the rpm's go back up and everything is good again i thought it might be the crank sensor(that runs the tach right?) but ther are no codes from the obdII scanner
can someone please help me, i have never had these type problems from a vehichle before
i bought it used so it may have been abused and i am willing to fix it but is it worth fixing or are these type problems NORMAL for a 97 rodeo with only 80k mi?
and what else will happen next?

Re: 97 rodeo problem(s)

I have a '97 3.2L V6 with 124K. I've never had those problems. I'd say 4 new alternators is not normal. Good luck.

You have to make sure your charging system is maintaining 14v with the truck running. If it is lower, you will get the conditions you describe. I've gone trough 3-4 "rebuilt" parts store alternators or starters with various vehilces until I got a good one. With your isuzu, if you cant get your original rebuilt by a quality shop, DEFINATELY pony up the bucks for a genuine isuzu replacement. (www.stcharlesauto.com has great prices) You see reports of this happening over and over again to those trying to use "remanufactured" alternators on thier rodeos. These trucks for whatever reason need constant, steady & clean current, and are super sensitive. IMHO- 1996-1997 (and 2001+) rodeo's are the most reliable of the rodeos, so you have a good truck!

G/luck

Re: 97 rodeo problem(s)

I have never had a good experience with aftermarket or rebuilds I would stick with only a new one from Isuzu unless you know somone who can rebuild it for you
