240sx Body kits, info please

Hey there, I bought a 1990 240sx 5-speed hatchback about 2 years ago, picked it up in a really good condition. I've been wanting to do some work on the car for a while now (nothing too pricey like an engine swap yet). Ever since last week when one of our neighbor's tried to park their Toyota Tundra on top of my 240sx.. I've been considering dressing up the car with body kits to take full advantage of the new paint job the car is going to get, along with the repairs (replace rear driver fender and driver side door). I however seem to know almost nothing about body kits and the costs associated with them, I've seen prices for front/side/rear kits every where from $300-$3000 online, a lot of them seem too look exactly the same. I don't really want to pan out too much for kits, but I don't want to throw money out on junk. My main concern is with them fitting the car properly and whether or not I'll have to pay $70/hour at a body shop to have them installed/fitted. I'm pretty open on style, I guess I'm leaning towards a more conservative look, if that makes any sense. I'm also interested in lowering/tightening the suspention up a little bit, not much, just take a little bit of the wheel gap off with out having clearance problems (if that's possible). I'm pretty new to the car scene, all of my experience so far is working on my dad's 72' trans am, and my older brother's prelude. If any one could give me some tips on shopping for kits or springs I'd really appreciate it. Pictures, numbers, links would be great.

Right now the car is stock except for rims & tires, clutch and a rebuilt tranny. Fixing things up as they become due at this point.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Read the faq.. theres a bunch of links to bodykit manufacturers. Don't let any jackass put you down for having a stock car and getting a kit... good thing getting it dropped! Makes a load of difference.

Try www.raretrick.com to get an idea of the stuff you can do to your car. Their prices aren't too shabby but if you spend more time, you could find other places with better deals. Careful with any ebay items cuz more than likely they will be knockoffs. You get what you pay for. High-end kits which fit better will be more expensive, as with the labor associated with lining everything up etc...

Bingo. Just what I'm looking for, about how much would I expect to spend on a whole kit like that? And how difficult is the install? Is it something one can do in the driveway, or is it a trip to the body shop?

Dont get a body kit. They are just a hassle, and you will be ostricized for putting a body kit on a car before modding the engine. You will get more respect (at least from people who actually know something) for having a sleeper than having a dressed up doll car.

how can you not like the jacquemond widebody kit?
let me first start out by saying that i am not a fan of kits at all.
but... the jacquemond kit looks amazing. it's a kit that serves a function, and it makes the 240 look like a freaking supercar. it's clean...it's rare...it's purposeful...o yeah, did i mention it's clean clean clean?

nah the jacquemond destroys the 240sx... it isn't an 240/200/180sx or whatever anymore... it's a different car... and I think it looks pretty ugly :P but thats just taste

i agree that the jaquemond kit is disgusting. not only does it make the front of the car look like a Miata, but it makes the back look like a Corvette. what the hell kinda mix is that? plus the widebody isn't even that nice...i just don't like it.
