Question 95 Escort Electrical Problems

Okay, here goes, I have multiple problems, not sure if they are realated or not:

1. Cooling fan runs all the time, I have to unplug it when parked or I have a dead battery.

2. Radio displays time, but dimly, however the tape player will not play (or even eject) and the radio does not play. While this is happening, the indicator for a open hatchback is on constantly. When I turn the radio off, the hatchback light flashes. I hit the on button for the radio and about 5 minutes later the dim clock comes back on and the hatchback light stops flashing.

I swapped out all fuses, no change. I assume that the radio/hatchback light problem may be a bad ground some where, but where to start looking? The cooling fan maybe is a bad relay?

I am currently overseas and waiting for my manual (Chiltons), but if anyone has any ideas or suggestions they would be appreciated.

Thanks.
