Garret Turbo w/ manifold

I plan on getting a Garrett T25 turbo w/ a turbo manifold that has a 35 mm wastegate flange. Im going to run the turbo around 7 or 8 psi with no intentions of upping the hp past 200. hopefully it will stay around 190 or so...will i need any other parts, other than the manifold and turbo installed so i wont have to worry about engine trouble? New to this so hopefully someone knows what they are doing.

you might wanna get some better pistons. the stock ones go at about 185ish. a better exhaust system is always a key part in a turbo system too. post your mods so far and that will help.

and a huge intercooler... you better have teh rigth place to put it....
and good luck with the turbo...
what does your turbo kit come with?

intercoolers are not always needed. they can actually hurt a system in some cases by reducing pressure. you must first determine the intake charge temp. and compare it with the ambient air temp. compare this with the an intercoolers efficiency, and you can figure out if an intercooler is even needed.

Thanks for the replies. I plan on getting a cold air intake, cat-back exhaust w/ the turbo and turbo manifold. I have a little cash laid aside for this project and wanted to get by with what i could. The pistons and intercooler are good ideas but i dont know if id have enough for them. I've looked around and am probably going to wait if they aren't necessary.

dont get a Cold air intake unless you plan on sellling it cause the turbo sucks air in from a totaly different place than a non boosted engine and the CAI will not fit right. your better off just sticking a cone filter on the throttle body for now and then sticking it on the turbo's compressor housing when you get that.

also, im guessing you have the a beta engine and not the v6 delta. with those relatively moddest hp goals, you might just wanna get a supercharger. it would probably be cheaper.

if you decide to go the turbo route, you might wanna look at this. i dont know how much your budget is... but this is a great price for the hp you get. click beta extreme turbo kit under turbo kits.

I dont plan on turnin my car into a racer; i just want some boost to go with the look. i have an '01 tibby and my dads been working on my body kit over winter (Veilside ) so im just tryin to get the power to match the look. I think ive decided to scrap the turbo and go with the CAI, 4-2-1 headers, and cat-back. hopefully that'll put me around 170 which is enough to live with . Just wanted to tell everyone thanks for the advice, especially tibby01, and ill definately check in the forums often for other ideas.

you wont get to 170 at the wheels maybe 160 crank, which is like 145ish at the wheels. hyundai's engine hp was slightly off, its only like 135 or so.

you could also get cams that would help out. the cams out of the 1.8L tiburon engine are supposed to work pretty good.

other things like pulleys, a better clutch, high compression pistons...blah blah blah... there are tons of things you can get for the tibby engine without going boosted, and still have high hp.

also check the Group buy section of that forum, there is a GB on some pretty sweet headers for only 110 bux(i think).

kspec has some high compression pistons that would definately help. if you really want some help, go to www.hyundaiaftermarket.com and talk to Red. he has done tons of N/A mods(non boosted or nitrous) and has his tib running 14s now i think.

if you are turboing a N/A car.....ALWAYS intercool it. If you dont the intake temps will be VERY hot, probably hurting the HP. the hotter the air the less power you get. The only time you have to worry about intercooler pressure is if its too big for the turbo or too restrictive. The more mods you do...the more power, simple as that. The cams will help a lot, the more the intake valves open the more air your gonna get. If you only want that much boost...you need all the COOL air you can get, and a good exhaust to get the air out as well. also, get an S-AFC to controll fuel. get either a wideband O2 sensor or go to a dyno with one so you know your not gonna run lean with 7lbs of boost. You are prob gonna want a new clutch too. if you cant get the power to contact the wheels, its a waste of power.
