clutch question on a 180 zx i may buy

I just test drove my first 280zx and I LOVED IT! I currently have an 82 non turbo supra that has the same engine in it but it is not nearly as fast. My question is.... Is it common in Z cars to have the clutch come VERY far out before engaging? Like on my supra it engages super quick when lifted off the floor but the Z comes out so far that like if i have my heel resting on the floor it will not engage. i have to lift my foot up in the air to get it out far enough. So is this a clutch isssue or perhaps an adjustment i can make somewhere? Also the dude was saying you can adjust the seat so you do not have to push the clutch all the way to the floor but this sounded like it would be harsh on the clutch over time. anyway please let me know thanks
