2000 Rodeo transmission filter?

Ok I'm a rookie and have always took my vehicles to the shop to get fixed but after I got my 89 ford escort.. man I've I learned a lot.

I was told I need to change the transmission and belt right away. I've read on another post where the tranny drain/fill holes are but where is the tranny filter? How often you flush coolant? Thanks in advance!

The filter on your 4L30E tranny is inside the main (large) pan. You have to remove that pan to get at it. IIRC- the filter is held in place by 3 10mm bolts. It is a screen & cloth media type filter, but really only needs to be replaced every 50-60Kmi or so. However you should change out the ATF every 20-30Kmi on these trannies. Do a yearly drain & refill of the radiator, clean & refill the overflow bottle & you'll be in good shape. Get the timing belt, tensioner assembly & water pump changed out when you exceed 100Kmi.

I just did the tranny service on my '97 LS earlier today (actually yesterday now!). My filter is inside the large pan, too. Toughest parts of the job: 1)getting the back 2 pan screws out/back in, and 2) getting the pan out without removing the cross member (loosen the two nuts for the mount behind the pan and pry up to lift the tranny and give adequate clearance to slide the pan out).
I found the magnet covered with metallic sludge and a light sludge film covered the bottom of the pan. You have to top off the fluid with the engine idling and the tranny warmed up, in my case. It did improve the shifting a bit.
My Rodeo has 124K miles. I last did the filter and gasket thing at 60K, and I've changed the fluid once in between. I've been feeling the pressure to do it for the last 4K, but my buddy claims that this is a job for people with too much time to work on their vehicles! Axle oil next. Good luck!
