Wood Quality (rated G)
just so no one got confused when clicking this topic.
![]() Anyway, A friend of mine insists that hardwood/high quality wood boxes (pine/oak/walnut/Ceder/Elm etc etc) produces a better sound than partical board or plywood. I don't hear a noticeable difference, and I have extremely acute hearing...what do you guys say?

Re: Wood Quality (rated G)
as long as the wood doesn't flex I don't think there would be much of a difference at all

i agree but if the wood is really bad particle board and if the sub breaths though the wood it is just bad wood.
he does have a point though if the would is really strong and allows less volume( i dunno if that would happen because i don't have alot of experience with many different types of wood), and the box is ported it could make a difference in sound, i dunno if it would be better or worse though.

there are two thinks a box must NOT do
1) the walls should not flex, which takes a hardwood and/or internal bracing 2) The box should not vibrate or resonate - generally a strength of a good MDF |
