Question Automatic Shoulder Belt

Hello,

I'm new to the forum. I have a 91 civic LX which has about 118,000 miles on it. Passenger side automatic shoulder belt does not go forward when the door is open. I've checked the fuse and I know the motor is still good cuz sometimes, which is really rare, the belt does try to move but stops in the middle and comes back every time when the door closes. The motor dosnt even come on and there are no noise either. Please let me know if someone has any experience with these belts.

I dont know if honda treats this the same as acura, but my gf's 91 integra had the auto seatbelt fail, and her mechanic said to take it to the dealer because they may fix it for free. And they did!

This was only like a year or so ago, so the thing was obviously way out of warranty. Maybe because it's a safety issue, and therefore a potential liability for them, they'll deal with it.

Worth a shot!

Re: Automatic Shoulder Belt

I have a similar prblem on my 90 LX 4dr. The seat belt mechanism goes all the way forward but does not come back on the passenger side. The seat belt light and beeper won't stop. I finally hand cranked it to the rear position and unplugged the fuse so it wouldn't go forward when the pasenger got out of the car. A member of another forum said they had a recall on the seatbelts because it was problem prone and the dealer would fix it for nothing. I am looking into in now. If there is a recall there is no time and mileage limit.

anything related to your seat belts would be covered under a recall. take it to a dealer or liscensed honda shop.

if you have a hatch or crx, and the female end of the seat belt has a red plastic "warning" tag on it, then your car has already been serviced for one of the first recalls. i also found out that on 90-91 civic/crx, you arent supposed to undo the seatbelt before you get out....its supposed to stay buckled while the door is open. i tried getting out like that once...didnt seem very practicle.
