No, 2k1 and 2k2 have different headlights.

The lights intself shouldn't be more than $250-$300. Work - no more than a $100-150 (even that is WAAAY too much). Unfortunately can't really suggest any mechanics, b/c i'm on the west coast

Re: replacing 2002 maxima headlight w/ 2001's

You would think after they were stolen once, you would have solved that problem. If people would only look online, there are numerous fixes for this problem. I also recently heard that Nissan will fix the problem if you take it in. For a quick fix of no more then $50 bucks, it's a lot cheaper then replacing your 02 HID's every month. Why one would wanna replace the HID's with regular bulbs is beyond me!
(or you could just move outta that "hell-hole" called Jersey!)

that "quick fix" you are talking about only causes the thief to do more damage to the hood and body to get the HID's, it is worthless as far as preventing theft goes. the problem cannot be solved, the design is just shit and they are far too east to steal. if i lived in NJ, after they were stolen once i would get 2k1's.

bbee_w, you should get the AE headlights, they look the best. and $900 is way too much, half that should be about right

Re: replacing 2002 maxima headlight w/ 2001's

The reason their being targeted so much is because they can be taken without opening the hood. Get the fix they sell and the thiefs will HAVE to open the hood to get to them. This is going to take alot more time, plus make the alarm go off, so the only damage you MIGHT get, is if it pisses off the thieving bastards and they end up throwing a brick through them because the can't get to them.
AND that cost is about right if you go through the dealer or any shop that will get them through the dealer. You'll find them a little cheaper online, and save some money by installing them yourself. It's not the HID bulb that's so expensive, its the whole lamp AND the bulb.

Re: replacing 2002 maxima headlight w/ 2001's

Opening the hood (a couple of inches) and disabling the alarm is a piece of cake. The fix does nothing to prevent it. Getting 2001 AE headlights would be the way to avoid getting them stolen in high risk areas where they keep on coming back to do it again. Somebody had a write-up, but I can't seemed to find it. I suggest you post the question at the 5th Gen forum at Maxima.org.

Re: Re: replacing 2002 maxima headlight w/ 2001's

It would be helpful if the names of the specific places that install 2001 lights in 2002/2003 Maximas could be noted so that owners can decide whether or not this is an appropriate fix and know where to go.

To date, nothing else has worked -- this is a simple fact of owning a 2002/2003 Maxima in NY/NJ.

Are there any places in Jersey City, NJ?

Re: replacing 2002 maxima headlight w/ 2001's

I thought the fix to the HID theft problem was the so called "Data Dots." Anyone know about this?

Even if my 2k2 headlights (if I had them) were stolen I'd still get my standard lights put back in but not at 900 bucks for either set.

The 2k2 are true HIDs so I wouldn't trade them for nothing less.

The "Data Dots" do nothing to prevent the HID theft. Supply and demand for the HID is the culprit and how easy they are to steal.

The HID's cost around $1300 for the pair (insurance claim). Not to include the damage they do to your Max. Average insurance claim after an HID theft, over $3.5K.

Your last statement. Easy for you to say; lets see what you say after your HID's have been stolen three to four times and your insurance is about to drop you. As always just my two cents.

Re: replacing 2002 maxima headlight w/ 2001's

Yes, I know that my last statement was easy to make but I'm just that kind of person, if you hit me I just keep coming back again and again.

I'd try to keep my car garaged if I were you, maybe you don't have one but there has got to be another solution besides just getting different headlights.

I guess the headlights can be made to fit just about any car and they look good that is why they are so popular.

Ricers are starting to add them to their Civics now so I'd be extra careful not to leave my car parked anywhere for too long unobserved.

It's just like everything else in this world though, if a thief wants it bad enough, he will find a way to take it, remember locks/alarms are made to keep honest people honest.

Sorry about your bad luck, hopefully you'll find a solution and the punks who perpetrated these crimes.

I would have the insurance company pay for another set of the 02-03 HID's. Don't install them though. Buy some regular halogen 01 headlight assemblies yourself and install those instead. Then when you go to sell your car, you will still have the original hid assemblies to sell with it, or you could just Ebay them .

As a side note....I'm so damn happy I live far away from the east coast.

Good suggestion. That is what I would do. The 01 AE lights seem to look the best. Can be purchased for about $325-$360.
