Lightbulb to all you hunters

The anti's are calling the Governor more than ever. This bear hunt is not a done deal yet.

Take a few minutes and call the Governor and tell them you support NJ F&W and the bear hunt. Call, fax or write today. Do it again tomorrow. Put it in your speed dial. Keep calling!

They are taking a simple tally and NOT TAKING NAMES OR ADDRESSES. Even if you don't live or hunt in NJ please help!!!

Governor McGreevey P.O. Box 001, Trenton, NJ 08625-0001 Ph. (609) 292-6000 , fax (609) 292-3454

email: http://www.state.nj.us/governor/govmail.html
The Anti's are killing us, they are calling from all over the world.
Children are starting to get hurt, bears are killing family pets, ruining homes and cars. Please help us out.

Re: to all you hunters

Putting a bullet into an animals head is a lazy and cruel way of ridding yourself of an inconvenience.

Far more children get hurt through the stupidity of gun owners than through the behaviour of bears.I say shoot a few stupid gun owners[the responsible ones can ,of course, keep their beloved firearms]

When hunters start battling the bears hand to...paw? or with knives or spears, then I'll show some respect. However, luring a bear to a bucket full of honey then capping them in the head with a .357 magnum doesn't really make the word "skillful" pop into my head. More like stupid. I'm not really into deer hunting either, but at least they eat the deer, and plus deer over-populate really easily...when is the last time we had too many bears?

Back in the old days,it would have taken a far amount of balls and a good eye to take down a bear with a single shot muzzle-loading musket. It would have been neccesary to stalk the animal fairly closely, and make your first shot count, because if you stuffed it up,you were close to a wounded and angry creature with no chance of reloading before it turned on you.Such hunting was a respectable and bold adventure.Modern semi-automatic rifles with much more powerful ammunition, and highly accurate scopes make hunting about as brave and skilful as hanging out laundry.Yet for some reason there are those who think that it is still macho to kill something that would shred them in hand-to-hand combat.

Taranaki, I don't know where you get your data from but, your data is wrong. More children get injuries from autos and animals. Gun related deathes to children don't even make it into the TOP 15. I invite you to go to Jama or American trauma surgery web sites and look it up. All reports can be tilted to one side or another. I think we can agree on that. But do a search on Children Deaths 0 - 15 yrs old and look for the avg.s there. Now if you were to beleive the Anti' Gun people, they will tell you about gun deaths in NEWARK, NJ or CAMDEN, NJ or South CENTRAL LA. but they ownly tell you about guns deaths vs Farm deaths. I don't know about you, But when was the last time you seen a farm in these areas. The Anti's will tilt the numbers in their favor just as the NRA will tilt the numbers in their favor. But if you look at Cause of deaths, you will be shocked at what you will fine.
As far as Trophy Hunting goes, I'm against it. You have an animal on your wall and now what will you do with it? Eat What You Take. You don't go to a Supermarket and buy meat your not going to eat. To me, Hunting is the same thing.
Also Taranki, You said something about putting a bullet in some animals head is a lazy and cruel way of ridding yourself of an inconvenience. Well I hope and pray that your children may never have to face what they are facing hear in NJ. LAZY, Hunting is not Lazyness. Hunters must stay in shape ( Or at least they should) because of the walking and moving that is taking place.
Boring... Well, Deer Hunting is Boring. You sit in a tree and wait and wait and wait. I, like Bird hunting myself. Getting out and walking and looking at the surrounds is great.
Alot of people assume that all hunters are Fat Drunkin Red Necks. This is because alot of film studios think this the way. With this mind set, I can say Anyone that drives a car is a drunk driver.
Taranaki, You say that the bears are not a problem, Well, Lets drug them, and relocate them to near by where you live. Then you can show everyone how we can live with bears.

While I don't hunt bears, I see nothing wrong with it as long as the hunts are controlled. The DNR of most states know the populations and attempt to keep them sustainable and under control.

Killing animals just because they might pose a threat is the wrong reason to hunt them. If a specific animal has attacked someone, then that animal should be destroyed. If an animal is posing a risk to someone then that animal should be dealt with. That includes killing it.

Anti's

Some of you sound like anti hunters. The question I have is, How many of you anti's eat Beef, Chicken , eggs, Pork Turkey's .... Have you ever seen how they die? So I guess it's O.K. to to buy these because your not the one at the controls of the killing machine, Should the killing machine be outlawed?????

Hmmm...so am I correct to understand that hunting bears is allowed to keep the population in control? So, does a point get reached where it is made illegal for a certain period of time to get the population up again, to avoid over-hunting as such? Maybe I misread it, Dave or the others, could you clear that up for me?

I don't like trophy hunting, but if you eat what you kill, fine. Just don't go after endangered species. What the hell does bear meat taste like?

In Michigan we have a hunting season for black bears which is run in specific counties and for a specific number of licenses. All hunting is restricted to their specific "seasons" as well. As an example, deer hunting with a firearm runs from 11/15 to 11/30 each year.

The deer population is growing faster then they can be harvested. I see more and more dead on the side of the road by being hit by cars. They are going to have a second season - a week in January - to try and reduce their numbers. Its estimated tens of thousands will die of starvation this winter because of population pressures.

I've had bear steaks before. Its ok. Nothing quite like them to compare tastes too, but I'm sticking with dear hunting for now. Eventually, I want to get in on turkey and duck hunting.

yeah fuck hunters. you know how any asshole hunters shot warning shots in the air at me and my friends on our 4 wheelers? i hope they were warning shots. go to the supermarket like everyone else. we have evolved from hunting and gathering, you're more of a hinderance than a help.

Holy crap someone take a picture, I'm agreeing with taranaki!

And to BP2k2max...hunters are not hunting to survive, it's a sport. I'm not anti hunting, I just disagree with some aspects of it.

Re: to all you hunters

I'm with yogs on this one. If a bear has posed a direct threat in human habitat, or for pop. control. Unfortunatley, the bears dont have quite the same situation as deer here.

Because a lot of the natural predators of the deer in north america are dying, the deer are growing fast in numbers. So i hunt deer. Or used to, at least. I went bowhunting for deer once, and that was kinda cool. Saw some deer, but I missed. Bows are hard
