best oil additive?

looking for advice on the best oil additive for high mileage engine. just broke 100,000 on my 99 silverado!

in my opinion oil additives just prolong the agony.if it is running well why would you need an additive.if it is not running well, fix the problem (engine rebuild etc...)no oil additive is going to fix a worn engine.

I bought an extened warranty on my 95 Silverado and it required me to use Slick 50. I just bought a 99 Silverado and got a 100,000 mile extened warranty on it as well. Guess what they are requiring me to add to the crankcase? Slick 50.

Now I'm not a metalergist, or a trade mechanic, but if the warranty companies are actucually shipping this stuff to customers and requiring the installation, well that says something I think.

Mind you I have never ever used an engine additive to prolong the life of an engine before this. I did pour a quart of kerosene in an old pontiac 326 to free up sticky liffters though! Hey dont laugh, it worked extreamly well, as long as you drain and change the oil and filter after 20 min. of idling.

At any rate if your going to add something, I'd look closly at this stuff. By the way this was a Factory recomendation from Chevy.

if you use a conventional oil then yes slick 50 or another additive like it is worth it, if your engine is still running great.i personally use a synthetic oil so slick 50 would be redundant.all i was getting at and sorry about any confusion is if your engine is worn then no additive is going to make it run like new for long.in the case of a sticking lifter yes there are tricks to temporarily fix the problem but in the long run to fix it replace it.

Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but this is my question too, and why start a new one? SO, does anyone have any input for anything besides Slick 50? or is this the stuff to use??? Any comments welcome...

I ALWAYS put 4 quarts 10w40 conventional oil, then add 1 quart of Lucas engine treatment. IMHO it's the best stuff on the market.

When my small-blocks begin to lose oil pressure (around 250,000 miles), I start adding a quart of Lucas Oil Supplement at each oil change (90-day intervals). Oil pressure returns to new specification for an additional 100,000 miles.

i personally use Greased Lightning with dupont PTFE, usually i have only seen at napa, or advacne auto, 10 bucks a quart, but worth it IMO (espically over the alternatives which are way more expensive prolong, etc...) saw lucas mentioned here also, they have a good product to.

I've always had pretty good results from RESTORE. I've never run a compression test on the cylinders before and after, but the oil consumption decreases (from a 1/2 quart between changes to a 1/4 quart or less), and the oil pressure returns toward new spec. I generally add a can of RESTORE every 30,000 miles. Here's a link to their website so you can see what it looks like: http://www.restoreusa.com/

If it says anything about good maintenance, I've gotten 422,000 miles from a 1993 K2500 (original engine, 1 replaced tranny) and I'm currently at 308,000 for my 1998 K2500 (original engine and tranny).

I have also heard good stuff about Lucas additives.

Stay away from Slick 50,the worst stuff.My father replaced two engines because the guy put Slick 50 in it and the oil was so sludgy.Lucas is the best and it works like it says on the commercial

lol just change the oil when youre supposed to and any stock spec chevy v-8 should last just about forever. Also, it helps to not redline it all the time and not romp on it when its not up to operating temperature yet. that will kill the engine pretty quick, as well as revving it when its in neutral... just dont be a total neck and it will last a long time, granted the valve guide seals or whatever are bound to fail eventually lol

ive have seen MOA tested and it proved to be as good as the JB brothers product not only a good additive it comes with roadside assistance
