Im thinking about removing the resinator when I have the Flowmaster DeltaForce 50 series mufflers put on, has anyone done this? Will it have an adverse affect on interior exhaust noise?

From what Ive read the resonator is nothing more then a very high flow muffler, do you have any idea If I would gain anything If I replaced it with a aftermarket unit. Does it flow well enough that any added flow wouldnt be worth the moneym put into it. BKVic |

Re: exhaust
True, it's nothing more than a luxury car baffle to quiet it even more. The people that have removed it said it was louder inside the car at constant speed. The thing is, all high performance(even less restrictive) ones, are 3" in and out. Requiring you to change the whole center pipe from the cat. conv. back to the "Y", which would then be a whole cat-back system. So.... either go 2.5" from the "Y" with nice mufflers and be happy with it(about 10HP), or spend the big bucks and get a dyno proven cat-back system, like the Corsa(18HP). The people that have tried to piece together their own systems have had problems in different areas. Some lost mid-range power, while others were happy with power but the SES light would come on every time they got on it. Not enough back pressure and the O2 sensors think it's lean. Anyway, that's my take on it.

Re: Re: exhaust
I have not started price shopping yet. I measured the stock muffs and then found the closest match on Magnaflows website along with the polished S/S tips that have the stock shape,#35175. I'm not so concerned about price as I am about finding a GOOD shop that can do Mandrel bends and knows how to properly weld S/S(it is different).

Re: Re: exhaust
I put a set of OD calipers around the "Y" to muff pipe and I think it was only 1.875(1-7/8).

Re: exhaust
Thanks indy
Um ....would it be ok you think to just cut out the stock muffs. and clamp in new Flowmasters or Dynomax. I mean I know I'd prolly get better sound but would I see any hp gains? |

Re: Re: exhaust
I would never recommend clamping. It really should be welded and it's cheap labor($20-$40). Plus, you will have to have a transition pipe welded on anyway. Most high performance muffs are 2.5" inlet. A muff shop will have tapered tubing to go from the stock pipe diameter to the muff inlet. I think Greg Garnes did some dyno tests, and reported 8-10HP gains just by getting rid of the stock "grandpa approved mufflers".
