the demise of the 240

does anyone else feel that nagging feeling that slowly builds with every new member to join the boards and post the next: ....

"hey my friend said the you can put a sr20 in a 240 and make it spank civics, im selling mine so i can do this yo i got a shop that can do the entire swap for a few grand that my dads gonna give me!"

... post?

I hate to think it but i feel our beloved cars are going to get riced ...

If you have the means, buy any 240sx you can find and only sell it to someone who truely deserves it k? lol

I mean its cool that they are getting popular, but i just wish people would do research and figure out if a 240 is really what they want, and not just get one so they can put a 10 ft wing on it and "drift" into a wall

i'll say what i've always said:

i don't care. i've loved the car for so long now and taken so much time to learn about it and spent so much time pining after one that i'm not going to let a bunch of newbies or a bit of media (over) exposure ruin my goals. i'm still going to get my 240 hatch, i'm still going to SR20 it, and i'm still going to use it for drift. that's just because i love the car and i'm doing it for me. i don't care if anyone else thinks i'm a poser or a pack-follower, because i'm not doing it to please anyone except for me.

the end.

I really dont have any loyatly to the 240sx. Frankly, if they made a cheap RWD toyota or honda I would get that instead (if I didnt need a decent daily driver, I wouldn't hesitate to trade it for a AE86 hatch or miata).

Lets be honest, its not the car its the driver. I dont have respect for anyone until I see what they do with their cars. The Civic EX driver who goes to auto-x is going to get more respect from me than the 240sx driver who has never been.

Plus, for every hardcore drifter or purist 240sx owner there are ALREADY 10 ricers out there trying to invent altezzas for the hatchback. The car has already lost any "enthusiast" credibility it had over the hondas.

Re: the demise of the 240

Trust..me the stigma a car slowly gets will eventually bother you, I had upuntill a few days ago a civc that I had for a whileeeee (some old guy crashed into it), no body mods just a clean simple black ex, only shit that wasnt stock was engine stuff and a little bit of stereo stuff because the stock stuff just kinda sucked. I was driving up to the movies one day with my girl and some dude yelled "ricer fagget", I stoped the car in the middle of the road jumped out and in his face and proceeded to ...I dont know vent till he realised the error of his ways hoping he would give me a reason to hit him, I didnt think the stigma bothered me either till that day.

But I need a new daily driver and I was going to get a 240sx anyway...sure it wasnt gonna be my daily driver, I dont drift I dont claim to, I dont want to, but..hey....I like the car.

i totally agree with everything brian just said.

pretty much 99% of it.

but u forgot to mention 1 thing.

popularity = price jump.

thats all that bothers me. end of story.

The only thing that gives me much hope for the future is that the availabity of clear tails for the s13 or s14 is very rare right now. I'm sure it would be easy enough for people to do...but they must understand that 240s don't deserve that and that's why there aren't any (that I've seen or heard about...). That and what's becoming only that give me a slight hope that they all won't be riced to the junkyard.
