code 42

code 42 comes up after it dies.it will run for 5min looked for broken wires did not find any then stared ran for 2 hours. died same thing . replaced ignition mod the old one was melted inside. but ran about 5 min then started up again ran for 2 hours at idle no code shut it down then tried again an hour later 5min stall code 42 i will try another computer now.changed computer seems to have fixed it been driving around for almost 2 hrs shut it down & it startsup every time .well cross my fingers hope thats it

You say you replaced the computer??? I'm having the same problems with a 91 Lesabre. The ign module was melted. replaced it, still code 42. Now it has a miss to it..afraid it's the coils now. What computer did you replace..the ecm under the dash????

42. EST(electric spark timing) bypass, open or shorted

check wiring and connections
