high oil level

I've got a 1999 Ram 2500 with the Cummins 5.9 liter engine. The oil level has been creeping up. It has a Bosch fuel injection pump. Does this type of fuel injection pump have the possibility of a seal leak which would allow diesel fuel to leak into the engine oil?

Re: high oil level

If it has the VP44 injection pump, yes it could leak,
another possiblity is a bad injector, do you have fuel
dilution? Any caterpillar dealership does oil analysis,
with a baby food jar of oil, for a small fee. Excessive
idling can cause this also. Any driveability issues?

Re: high oil level

Happy New Year,
Well I found the leakage problem, it seems the VP44 has a stainless steel diaphragm in it and if the lift charge pressure drops below 8 psi it ruptures and causes a hard start as well as a leak at the rotor shaft seal. I added two ounces of engine oil dye to the fuel tank to determine if the leak was in the head area or the fuel injection pump area. Chrysler or Cummins does not use a low pressure lift pump which would be an ideal way to prevent this from happening, (again). I've placed a electric low pressure lift pump between the engine mounted pump and the fuel tank. All in all it has been a costly fix, no wonder they discontinued this type of fuel system. I also recieved word that the Bosch inline pump used on the two valve 5.9 liter engines is a good fix, and works well with the four valve heads. Anyways thanks for the reply.

Jerry
