'93 Lumina APV Transmission

Hi,

I inherited a 1993 Lumina APV with 150,000 miles. In cool weather, when the shift lever is put in R-OD-D or 2, the van makes a very slight move, either forward or backward depending on the selection. Then it just sits as if it were in park or neutral. After the engine has run for 30 to 90 seconds, it finally takes off.

If I slip the lever to Low, it moves forward immediately and I can shift to any of the other gears and drive with no further waiting for it to engage.

Once running, the tranny runs as smooth as can be. Shifts great, runs great. Love the van except for the ugly nose.

I've had the trany fluid exchanged (old pumped out and new pumped in). My S-I-L said it did the same for him so it's been that way for quite some time.

Anyone know what may be causing this? I could sure us your worth.

Kenn- Did you replace the filter?

No. I spoke to a local shop where all they do are trani's. When I began to tell him the symtoms, he told me the problem and the rest of the symptoms, Said those trani's usually only last 100,000, I've got 148,000. There's a gear of some sort that fails and a problem with the bell houssissng that causes the shudder. Rebuilt trani and bell bousing - $1500.
