Blowing out engines sucks. My brother in law did that to his car about a year ago. He had to order an engine from California and got it a few months ago and put it in. Now it's running again and he's gotta break it in for a few thousand miles, then he's supposedly going to race it in the spring. He's got a turbo on his car plus this top of the line engine which was meant for a race car, but he put in his. We'll see how that goes...my avenger's been pretty reliable for me so far, but I dunno how long it'll last...

I'm not sure exactly what kind of engine it is but apparently put tons of money into it. Enough that my sister said to him, you're paying for it. and the turbo was some expensive one too. Obviously it's fast enough if he's gonna go race it. But it's not my husband, so I'm not sure exactly what kind they are.

He doesn't have an avenger, I thought I wrote that originally, but I didn't. It's a 2000 civic si. That may change your thoughts a bit. If I remember to ask him Thursday, I'll let you know what kind it is and stuff. Sorry to confuse you!

Re: whats up

2000 si? are you kidding me? why race a 2000 si? I could understand a crx si as a drag car, but a 2000 coupe si?

actually at the track last night a local speedshop (Stage6 Motorsports) had their Drag Civic EX out there running crazy times. Its turbo pushing 400fwHP. Do not underestimate them as drag cars

I'm not ignorant to the fact that civics can be drag cars. You see them in honda tuner and super street. But it sounds like the 2000si is the person's daily driver, and when you convert it to a drag car with stiff suspension, a high rear end gear ratio, a high compression turbo, maybe nitrous oxide, some people remove seats and the likes. It just ruins the daily driver aspect. I'm sorry, I do have respect for the people that are actually racing their cars, and putting money in the right places. It just seems like there are too many kids with their parents money that just want to be like the Fast and Furious movies. If these kids actually want to race their cars, they wouldn't just be getting a turbo and no2. They would be beefing up the overall car first.

Re: whats up

there are aspects in the drivetrain of a 140hp civic that can't handle 4-500 hp, and these kids act as if a turbo and "NOS" is all you need because of those damned movies. There are all kinds of aspects to a car that will improve it, not just the engine. For instance I know of a transam with 280hp that can beat a 330hp cam ss because the trans has such a higher gear ratio (4.10). It's just I hate seeing "ricers" on the road. You don't see some1 into racing their import with a giant ironing board on the back of the car (especially a fwd car.. what's the point ?!?) And you don't see a professional NIRA driver with a body kit and lights underneath. And back to why a 2000si vs a crx si. The crx si has a lot more potential as a drag car because it's so light and the chassis is stiff in the right places. The 2000si is a commuter car intended to get you to work and back, and weighs 1.5-2 times the weight of a crx.

It's not his daily driver by the way. He has to drive like an hour to work through the slums up here. He driver's my sister's old car which is a 2000 civic. She has a new altima now...which apparently he wants to take and get her a nissan murano. I don't think she's giving up her car. And he's not gonna street race his civic, just for fun on the track, then sell it to some stupid 16 year old kid who'll give him money for it.

Re: whats up

First of all, I never said it beat it...it's just her new car...and he doesn't drag race his civic either. He likes working on his car, but hates it when it doesn't go right which is why he wants to sell it and get a more reliable car to drive to work. You're just misunderstanding what I'm saying...
