Re: Starter Car
1st car? nissan? go with a sentra se-r...fwd is good for beginner drivers, plus its a hell of alot more reliable than a 240.
i must admit, having the 240 as my 1st car was a learning expiriance....

The older sentras are nice and (if memory serves) they offer a n/a sr20 stock. A maxima isn't bad also. The maxima has good aftermarket support. I suggest you get cefiro headlights if you get a mid 90s maxi...they look hot if installed right.
Personally a J-body is much better to start out with than any Nissan FWD...as far as RWD is concerned...I like the 240sx.

maxima? he said newbie racer... not some old man car drivin lunatic like mynismo..LoL
get a civic man, seriously dont take it as a bad thing...if youre new, you could learn alot from a honda, plus the aftermarket is huge and cheap. save yourself some cash.

J-Bodies are real pos's. I would rank them on the level of a Kia or a Hyundai, you can defintely do better for a lot cheaper too lol.

If you want a sports car then a jbody is a pos...but if you want a car you can beat the shit out of and modify while having cheap parts readily available then they aren't too bad. Imports suck at having as much cheap parts...look at how many cavaliers/sunfires you see at junkyards...all the parts are easy as hell to get...and cheaper than fuck...
The car may not be really powerful...but it weighs very little (a little over 2500) and has decent power (135ft lb) and gas mpg is amazing (25 city; 37 highway). Cavalier is also a jbody...not just a sunfire... If you want a sports car then definitely get a rwd car...not a fwd...fwds push through turns, have the worst weight distributions (unless rear engined...but how often do you see that drivetrain?) and are in general not suitable for spirited and fun driving. To me, the best fwd on the market right now is the new mini cooper...great handling, weighs nothing and is pretty cheap. Other than the mini cooper...fwds are useful for economy/ commuting.

FWD or a shitty RWD like a Chevette is a good car. I learnt to drive on a civic. Theyre awesome cars, theyre just not mean to be sports cars. The handle like a dream and stop on a dime in your everyday situatiion. Go get an EF chassis hatch to trash around, you'll have the time of your life.

Re: Starter Car
seriously, i say get a mustang 5.0 with a 5speed. Cheap to fix, cheap to build and you can do alot of the work yourself. Plus the 302 has been around for decades so you can find parts everywere. They are actualy very reliable but you have to remember that if you get a 86-87 you "must" to convert to mass air, which is also cheap and widley available. Other wise modifications wont take well at all and screw things up.

flame me if you want, but i've always liked the look of 4th gen Civic hatches when done cleanly and properly and not all riced out. i wouldn't mind having one for a while if one came to me at an in-opportune price...but nah.

Those 4th gens can be built into serious track cars. Put on some 15x7 rotas, slicks, coilovers, b18 swap and you are keeping up with M3s.
