"new" car blues

well, i have just purchased a 1985 Iroc-Z with the 305 TPI and the 700R4 Tranny, well, between 2,000-3,300 i hear a popping coming from the air box, and when i put some weight on it, the popping gets worse, i was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this. also, can some one show/tell me how to adjust the linkenge on the tranny so the shifter lines up with the plate, i.e, its a bitch to get into park
thanks

Re: "new" car blues

unless the engine has been torn apart and rebuilt, then its more likeley that someone pushed that 305 too high and burned a valve or something, i would run a compression test and see if all your cylenders are even, and at around 120-140 psi, im not sure exactly where it should be, but they should be the same. if you have some that are low, its either burned up rings, or burned valves, burned rings would cause a misfire, and stumbling, and burned intake valves cause the backfire out the intake trac. thats where id start.

old thread.... but did you ever get this figured out?

the old lady has a 93 Corsica doing the same thing. it runs, but running at speed, or if you gun it in idle its popping through the air box.
