President Fillmore.

Here's an interesting quote from a letter that Fillmore wrote to the "Emperor" of Japan in 1853: "The Constitution and laws of the United States forbid all interference with the religious or political concerns of other nations."

Really president Fillmore? I think you might want to tell a few of the presidents that followed you this.

Either we need to make more states, or we need to leave everybody else alone and concentrate on our own country. We're kind of like that nosey neighbor who keeps giving tips to other people about maintaining their yard, when our own yard is in need of some weeding itself.

Re: President Fillmore.

To which part of the Constitution and to which laws was he referring?

There actually are no solid rules in the constitution stating this, but I believe there are somethings about the extent of the power of the government that can be interpreted as such - I haven't read the constitution in a while to be sure what they are all listed under though.
And I have no idea as to what laws he was refering to, but he was president so he obviously had some idea.

I prefer the comparison to the nosey neighbour who knocks down the fence and seizes your lawn by force, so he can take better care of your grass.
