Post wierd things your parents have done
Inspired by a "how ghetto were your parents" thread on another board
![]() My parents had a few funky rules/ways/whatnot. - my dad refused to utilize the drive thru. Once a month we would bring home McD's or Jack in the Box...and he always INSISTED on going inside and ordering and carrying it out. My parents limited themselves to a sandwich, med fry and med drink, but for us kids it was small fry and small drink. - my parents never kept any soda in the house except for birthdays and holidays. And even then we all were only limited to one drink. The soda was then saved for the next special occasion. - my dad saved EVERY receipt for whatever my parents spent. He would keep them in an envelope and write down how much the tax was for each receipt. He had an envelope for every year, and when my mom and I went thru his stuff after he died, we found all the envelopes...1 for each year from 1961-1995 - my dad also for whatever reason wrote down the temperature for each day. We also found countless notepads of dates/temperatures recorded from June. 1971-just 3 weeks before he died (May, 1995) - my parents had a rule that we (kids) were never allowed to make phone calls to friends between 6pm and 8pm because that was typically times people would be eating dinner. - before my parents would let me hang out with anyone, they had to meet their parents first. A phone call from their mom or dad was not good enough, they wanted to meet in person.....needless to say my social life when I was young sucked - if I went over to a friend's on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon I had to be back home by 4:30pm. If I went to their house in the evening I had to be home by 8 then cleaned up and in bed by 8:30. - this is the big killer......my dad was anal about ANYTHING. If we got new furniture or hung up shelves or whatever...he had to measure out the area and get everything dead-centered. He would spend hours measuring, making pencil marks on the wall or drawing it out on paper. We couldn't just get a picture and tack it on the wall.....a long process had to be executed before said picture was hung. When I was in college I got one of those "bookshelf" stereos. I asked him to help me hang 2 shelves up for it. The wall I wanted it on was between my closet door and bedroom door...and there was 52" of space to work with. It was 2 FREAKING HOURS before he even drilled the first hole in the wall!!!! I am sure more memories are lurking but these are the strangest things I could remember........mostly my dad's doing...the rest of us had no choice but to comply. |

Haha, thats some good stuff Kat. I can't really recall my parents being to anal about things.
-They do keep receipts for several years just incase of an audit. -My parents are liked by all my friends, especially my dad. The friends love hearing his teenage/military/any other stories of him getting in trouble or what not. -My mom didn't like the idea of me drinking in high school, but my dad didn't care. That caused some tension. -My mom use to clean the entire house the day before the maid came. We still give her hell for that stupidity. -My mom was like the goody-goody that never partied or did anything she wasn't suppose to. My dads the opposite. I don't know I guess my parents do really do anything abnormal. I'm sure they do, but its usually not an everyday thing.

Re: Post wierd things your parents have done
-My mum would call me pet names/nicknames in front of whoever would listen, she probably still does
-She was also one hellva tidiness freak, everything had to be spotless- I couldn't even leave my matchbox cars out witout being yelled at -My dad more-or-less forced me into playing Rugby and Tennis for about 10 years Otherwise my parents were somewhat normal- and they still are, I guess- but it's still pretty funny to look back on my adventures

haha those are pretty funny
all tho me; --Dad has a very high strong temper. if something goes wrong, i suggest everyone walk out of the room. - If it's ment to be done, it HAS to be done HIS way. If you figure its the hard way, you show him the easy way, hell go red and have sweat dripping off his nose. - Very affectionate. Loves kids, and likes to wrestle and play beer games - Loves VB - Loves his jeeps, (94, 96 cherooke) sometimes too much, goes overboard with it and does some rally fucking stupid shit with them, and its cool - Homophobic. very homophobic. - Can be quite rude when it comes to rich people. Hell sit at the dinner table at their mansion and say nothing, with his arms crossed. --step mum - screaming habit. wants everyone to clean up, but shes the one doing the mess. - keeps trying to encourage her sons n daughters to date.... ...... - is very obvious, loud talked and never shuts up - can get pretty tough.

I don't think my parents did very much weird stuff... Although, that's probably because the "weird" stuff is just natural to me since I grew up in that environment...
Um... Well, after I moved out of their house when I was 18 and moved across the state, every year for my birthday (and Christmas) which are both in December, they would send me some sort of fire-prevention/safety device, like a fire-extinguisher or a collapsable escape-ladder. So, now, at the age of 26, I've got several fire-extinguishers and such just laying around LOL. It's almost like they forgot that they'd ever given me a fire extinguisher, so they get me another one. I know it's just their parental concern, but DAMN! I was never THAT big of a pyro when I was younger! My dad has the greatest way of avoiding conversations, especially with my brother-in-law. Usually Nate (my brother-in-law) will ask a question or make a statement directly to my dad, and he's got this great way of just pretending like he didn't hear a thing, even when he was only a few feet away LOL. It's funny to watch. My dad uses his old nasty underwear (briefs) as shop rags... My parents won't allow me and my girlfriend to sleep in the same room when we visit them. Even though, for the last 3.5 years, me and my girl have lived in the same house and slept in the same bed (and my parents know this).

Also funny things with that did happen growing up in my house -like only saturdays would be known be hockey -no one else was allowed in the attic except for my dad -when my dad was home he was the only person who ever had the remote to the tv in the living room if we wanted to watch we wanted we had to go to our rooms -groundings never lasted 20 minutes -my parents were really leaniant with any type of punishment I could get brought home by the cops and they would just say "son we aren't proud of you." and that was that -also when I started driving by myself they always wanted to know who/where/when/what/why -no one was allowed to use my dad's workroom without asking him -no one was allowed to use any I mean any of my dad's tools without asking, sometime we would have to steal them when we wanted to build cabins and break stuff. Other than that I never had anything really weird happen to me growing up. |

Re: Post wierd things your parents have done
I was never allowed to stay at my ex boyfriends house beyond a certain time at night because we might get up to something. It was OK for me to go over to his place during the day though.

I can see it now in the year 2027- always yells at the dog everytime his nose goes to the ground - sterilizes kitchen counters after every last food preparation - uses Pledge everytime she dusts, never touches the feather duster - is always writing and re-writing, and editing and re-writing to do lists....(thank God I have a PDA for that now so I don't waste paper LOL) - has more shopping lists than I have socks in my drawer - still has that damn Neon from when before she and Dad got married

![]() Hmm... crazy things my parents do.... -My dad always sing silly little songs that he heard on childrens records from the 1950's -My dad is constantly wiping off the counter, even if there is nothing on it. Whenever we don't use a coaster he yells at us for making 'stick rings' on the table More in a bit, I have to go eat dinner.

Can't think of anything, exept the fact that my dad thinks turbos are the evil of the world.
