Question 93 Camry 4cyl Won't Start No Spark

My Camry died last week. Worked fine. Went to start it, and it turns like it's supposed to, but no spark. After some troubleshooting, we determined that it's either the distributor or igniter, or similar. Got it towed to a shop in Kenosha, they spent "a day and a half" on it, told me it was the igniter, and said it would be $550.00 to fix it. "!" Charged me 189. for the tow and diagnostics.

If it were just an igniter, we figured we could do it and we had it towed home. Got a replacement igniter, and no change. It just won't pass a spark and start.

Anyone have a clue???

I hate to hear that! All that work and money spent and nothing changed. Did they reimburse you for some of that? I'm so sick of mechanics and their inability to troubleshoot problems. What do we pay them for?!

I'll be curious to see what your issue is. I was having intermittent starting problems that apparently have been fixed with new plugs (old ones were loose) and a new fuel FILTER of all things. It had been stalling on me.. but a new "used" distributor fixed that problem.

Maybe it just needs a little tune up?? Let us know how it turns out. Good luck!

What a lame mechanic. So he couldn't tell for sure? Shame on him. What a racket! If it is not the timing belt, then it is either the coil or the electronic ignition control. Coil can be had for $40 and control unit for $150.
