Remote car starters

Hi all , I installed a remote car starter in a 98 Sunfire and it does not work , the car cranks but does not fire , I think this is because it has the passlock theft system , but I'm not sure . I've been told all 98's have the passlock system and Ive also been told that they don't , whats the truth and how do you tell ? I know this car does not have the little chip on the key . I purchased a passlock bypass module to install but it loooks like its gonna be a pain to do and I want to make sure this car has it before I start messing with it . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, from '98 on they all have Passlock. If you do not have DEI part number 555L it is a royal pain to install. Getting that code right is almost impossible. The 555L is self learning from your ignition key. All there is is a few wires and it's plug and play
