Rear Window Remote

I have a remote from a 2000 4Runner with a button that looks like a window and it also has a red button that the original 1997 remote did not have. Will this remote work on my 1997 and what year did remotes start rolling the rear window down? The original 1997 remote only had two buttons.

You can install a remote for any window, but it also takes putting a transponder in the rear window. A little bit of work, but a big help

Thanks, TRD. I was told the stock 2000 remote would not work with the stock 1997 security system. Is that right? The 1997 remote has 2 buttons and the 2000 has 4, a red button, a window, and two security buttons. It the best place to buy the transponder for the window is the dealer?

I'd assume that it would not work, however I don't claim to be knowledgeable about switching stuff like that. Your local dealer should know, and the best place to buy it would be the dealer unless you felt comfortable working with Ebay or something
