'97 Monte Carlo z-34 Keeps dying
Help! My daughter's car has had all the infamous 3.4 hard starts, etc, but here's a new one. The car starts great, but when it's warmed up, it won't run, and dies when slowing down. It's virtually undrivable now, and nobody seems to be able to figure this one out. The throttle position sensor was changed, and that didn't do it. It did this last month, and received a complete tune-up, but apparantly that didn't fix it, because the problem's back. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

Re: '97 Monte Carlo z-34 Keeps dying
first things first, has the car been hooked up to a tech 2 at a dealership? the car is programmed to have a self diagnostic ability, that can be checked with this tool. also, im not sure about the monte carlos, but if they have a locking torque converter, the TCC switch may be bad, meaning that it never unlocks, creates the same effect as a manual transmission when you dont use the clutch, drives fine, then as you slow down, it stalls. with the info you gave, thats my best guess.

Yes, the car's been checked, and the code that keeps coming up is for the throttle position sensor, which has been replaced. Incidentally, the warranty expired less than 1,000 miles ago. Thanks for the info. Judi |
