idle races
I have a 98 taurus/64,000 mi.Once in a while the care is in park or neutral. The idle speed will race up to 2000 rpm the down to 500 rpm almost stall then back up to 2000 rpm and will continue this cycle until I step on the gas and release the gas. This is problem only happens once in a while.I can smell a lot of unburned gas when it happens.I had the injectors cleaned about 4 months ago.On older cars they used to have a
automatic choke.I don't know how the gas flow is controlled on newer cars as they warm up.I was guessing that might be the problem but I may be way off,I don't know that much about cars. Any ideas? |

Re: idle races
try the Mass airflow sensor on top of the air box it is a very common problem on fords. A friend of mine has a 1992 ford explorer and we unpluged it then the idle calmed down and actually ran smooth. Is your check engine light on????? This MAS is a little black box that should be located on top of the air cleaner box if not it should be on the tube that runs from the throttle body to the air box. The price of one of these varys anywhere from 58-140 dollars and I don't think that it should be much more than that. Check on one of the auto parts sites if this is it to have a rough estimate.... Good Luck and tell me how it goes!!!!!
