Talking Tubro? or not possible

hey guys i would be thankful for any help i can get on this one. I got a 1993 potiac sunbird LE 4-door with 135,000 miles on it. It has the 2.0L I-4 and i was wondering if i could put the garrett t-2 turbo that comes factory on the sunbrid GT onto the engine as is, or if would have to take the whole engine and transplant it into my car. Some other specs 3-speed automatic, the car has been very reliable despite whart many other people say about sunbrids and also even tough i have really beat the crap out of it since i've had it for the past 2 years. Thanks alot for your help.

Also one more thing, from the time that i start the car to the time that i turn it off the brake light in the dash is almost always on and no, my e-brake is not on. Except for right turns then it goes off temporarily.

the brakelight thing, chevk your fluid. the sensor is on the left of the master cyl so that's probly it.
you can probobly just leech the intake/exh manifolds to get what you need, it prolly will bolt right on after the plumbing is done.

Re: Tubro? or not possible

but before that you might wanna replace some gaskets (head gasket mainly) just to be careful, even tho i'm sure you're not expecting a lot of boost but still it'd be a good idea.

PS- i know i'm in the wrong forum, but i was actually lookin to see if this place has a TTA page but it doesn't. what's up with that........after all it is the best pontiac buick ever built

Aye, that be correct and a head gasket, too. You'll also have to run oil lines from somewheres for that turbo as well. I have a '93 ragtop 'bird with the 2.0L n/a.
Ya wanna go fast, buy a race car-this ain't it.

Actually in order to put in turbo in a non turbo sunbird, You would first have to change the rods to cast iron, and pistons aswell, If I am not mistaking I think you have to change heads also. Then you would have to change the exhaust to 2 1/4 pipe. So really your best bet would be to find a 2.0 turbo rather than go thru all that trouble. I have a 90 Sunbird GT with TBI that I was planning on converting to turbo, but after reading all that is involved (www.j-body.org). I figured I would rather replace the whole engine. I once found a 89 GT in Fla on Ebay that no one bid on for $200.00, I was going to buy it, but then the guy told me it no longer runs. I would keep an eye out on Ebay. For either a parts car, or a complete turbo engine, but you will still have to replace the exhaust, and cat to 2 1/4 piping.

Re: Tubro? or not possible

It would be alot cheaper just to find a 91 Gtp with a 3.1 turbo (220hp) and swap it in. Then do alot of modifications for a turbo upgrade.
