1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Transmission problems
I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and for last couple of months i've been having problems with my (i think) transmission. When I start up, the gears don't shift. It'll shift from first to second but doesn't shift to the 3rd gear. It goes upto 60 km/h and the rev's go higher until I lift my foot off the pedel. Sometimes in the first gear the rev's go up and I have to lift my foot of the gas pedel. It does this for like the first 5 mins or so until its fully warm. I had it checked the they told me they didn't see anything wrong and only thing they could tell me was the fluid might need to be flushed. Im not sure if its my transmission or something else. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Re: 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Transmission problems
I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it has the same problem. Trans flush and new filter no help. Dealer wants to try and adjust the shift cable but that could cause other shift patten problems.
good luck DDR |

Re: 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Transmission problems
There is a speed senser on the trans that goes bad a lot. If that doesnt fix the prolbem then it may need the computer Flashed

Re: 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Transmission problems
My 99 Grand LTD with the 4.0 six has had prolbems with the transmission shifting and making noise since I got the truck. It has 62,000 miles and I am now having to have the transmission rebuilt because of excessive wear and bad electronics, its a 42RE or something like that and I am not very happy at this point. So check with a good trans shop and let them check it out because I was told the solonoids fail in these trans a lot causing all kinds of prolbems.
Hope this helps. |
