1996 200sx se questions

1. what engine did the 1996 200sx se have?
2. What did they run in the 1/4 mile?
3. Would a bluebird sr20det be a direct drop into the 200sx? or would i need new motor mounts etc.?

thank you.

all 200SX SEs have the GA16DE (1.6L) engine. i don't know what they run in the quarter mile. as far as the SR20DET swap goes... i am currently researching the same swap for my car. i believe you will need SR20 motor mounts, axles, transmission, ECM, etc. like i said, i am still researching this swap but i think if you don't have a US SR20DE then a front clip would provide the easiest installation.

Re: 1996 200sx se questions

yeah I have a 96 200sx se it has a 1.6l GA16DE and the stock car runs in the low 18s in the 1/4
and yes the BB sr20det will fit in it but you need alot of work and the ser drivetrain. I'm doing this swap right know and its hard to find all the parts.

Re: 1996 200sx se questions

well I'm working on the ser parts I need first. I have an engine for around a grand(sr20detBB) that was the easy part the hard part is getting the ser trans, axles,ECU, harness and mounts. But it looks like I may have found a guy that has this stuff for me so I hope to have most of this by next month.
do you have any thing yet or are you just playing with the idea of a det swap right now. I would say its the way to go these car are quick after this swap. I just sold my 03 WRX(with mods) for this car because it can be a sleeper and fast.

To the best of my knowledge, this swap will require me to purchase the following parts (note - this is without the front clip available):

1. GTi-R SR20DET engine
2. FWD SR20 5-speed transmission
3. SR20 motor mounts
4. SR20 axles
5. SR20 ECU
6. SR20 wiring harness
7. High-flow fuel filter
8. High-pressure fuel pump
9. High-flow cat-converter
10. High-flow resonator
11. Mandrel-bent 3" pipes
12. High-flow muffler

let me know what you think...

Re: 1996 200sx se questions

I would say your right on track but you might want to think about your engine selection the GTI-R has a little bit diff. turbo config. and is harder to swap. The sr20det blue bird with the other oarts you listed will fit right in the GTI-r has a little more power but the BB can give you the same and for the $ you will save Its worth it plus you will need a Jim Wolf ECU if you use the ser ECU they reporgram them and its around 500 bucks but well worth it these set ups are putting down well over 300hp with a little more mods and some tuning....nooch

Re: 1996 200sx se questions

the G20 and the SE-R are much easyer if you want to do BB swap. You will still need a ECU upgrade and a fuel pump at least.

If u have a 200sx se you are a lot better of selln it and buying an ser. the fabrication and custon work needed to complete this swap is not worth it. I have owned an 200sx se and i contemplated doing this also i talked to alot of people about it and there is just to many things required from an ser to pull it off that it is not economically worth it. thats why i said screw it and just bough an ser.

GA16de. Also you will need motor mounts for SER and tranny. The axels are also needed because the little star side of it that goes into it is different. ECU will be needed and maybe. Also an exhaust.
