the book of mormon?

i just watched south park with my brother and the topic today was mormons pushing their religion on other people. i don't have anything against religion, but im curious. if anyone else saw this episode, how accurate is it. the J. smith guy who finds gold plate with translation stones. how much of it did the creators of south park distort? b/c it made the j. smith guy look like an a-hole

A friend of mine saw that there were Jehova's Witness people were going door to door so he made up some bunk Jehovas Witness flyers real quick and went out with Ketchup and chalk, and drew an outline of a body, splattered the ketchup to look like blood and dropped the flyers all around it on the sidewalk. They passed his house by.

That sure is a lot of trouble though.

I asked my wife (who was briefly converted to Mormonism) as well as my co-worker (who was raised as a Mormon and attended BYU), and they both agreed that the episode, though with tounge firmly in cheek, hit most of the major details accurately. Not knowing the story myself, I couldn't verify it, but my co-worker said that when asked to re-translate the hidden pages, Joseph Smith was able to do so correctly, so that detail seems altered for comedic effect.

Remember also that Trey Parker is (was?) Mormon, and has made many jabs at the Mormon church before (Orgazmo, anyone? ), so this episode was probably just him using his soapbox to point the finger at them, just because he could.

That episode of South Park was hillarious. They did leave out the endless supply of food/toiletries that mormons keep as well. I went to this mormon girls house in high school and it was kinda strange.

I live under the Zion curtain and it sux I am not Mormon but i do live in Utah, all my life i have been pushed to convert I have missionaries come to my door at LEAST once month i used to have around 7 copies of the book of mormon, they were left on my doorstep by neighbors and others who felt that I needed to be saved from eternal damnation, that is I HAD 7 copies before I threw them out. Mormons feel that everyone in this state should conform to their beliefs that's why all the laws are geared towards their ideology in certain cities u can't even buy a beer on sunday it is against the law!!! and don't even think of trying to start a new bar or strip club or something like that because the city u want to start the business in will fight u tooth and nail, we just recently had a whole new slew of restrictions placed on our liquor serving laws, and we have the watered down beer a little while ago the restaurant wingers wanted to start selling beer on its menu, ohhhhhh boy that was a mistake there were protesters and threats of lawsuits. My question is this why do they care what other people do? why do they care if other people drink beer or alcohol or caffeine? it doesn't affect them, but yet they feel that everyone should conform to their standards are they so insecure in their own faith and self control that if a beer is present that they might drink it? are they so weak that they might accidentally wander into a strip club or are they such bad parents that one of their children might wander into a strip club past the bouncers and many employees or that they might get ahold of some alcohol? we have a theocracy for a government up here in Utah, 80% of the people in our state legislature are white mormon males, in fact i'm not sure but I think that one of the church's apostles is still in the legislature I can't remember if he still is but at one point there was one I went to a Salt Lake city council meeting recently and they started it with a prayer. The movie SLC punk is an AWESOME movie about Salt Lake everyone who wants to come to Utah should see it, it's also just a good movie by itself........anyway that's my rant for the sorry for it being so long but i needed to vent.

Actually when asked to translate the plates Joseph Smith and his apostles did translate them but they all got differing translations, besides the fact that the golden plates were never seen by anyone else except him and his apostles. I can't remember exactly it's been a long time since I have talked about the plates I believe he said that after they were translated they were destroyed or something so no one could refute the many differing translations all people had was his word.

thats the only problem i would have with any one of a different religion, i let you believe in what you want to believe, so let me do what i wanna do. all the mormon people at my school are just regular teenagers, i haven't met and mormon zealots yet.

You talk about J. Smith and the apostles, but what a LOT of people don't realize is that many of those apostles turned around and left the Mormon "church" (or the beginnings of it anyways) when J. Smith started consolidating power. They never said that they lied or that J. Smith made everything up, but I can just imagine the death threats. If you really want to learn more about the REAL Mormon "church", the part they won't tell you about until you're fully indoctrinated, I suggest you go to these websites:

http://www.exmormon.org

http://www.rapidnet.com/~jbeard/bdm/Cults/mormon.htm

http://www.bidstrup.com/mormon.htm

And there are many others if you'll just go to the Google and look! Let me know what you think. - S

Re: the book of mormon?

There's also some Ex-Mormon communities on LiveJournal.com. Just do an interest search on mormon.

I'm not a Mormon myself, though I am Christian (I'm not goin' into "Mormons aren't Christians" 'cause I don't wanna offend anybody).

I became interested in the LDS after I dated one for a good long while, back in HS... she ALWAYS tried to convert me, and I just couldn't understand how she believed some of the things she was preaching.

But as an aside, I've been with a couple of LDS chicks, now, and they are the biggest cock-ho's...They're borderline nymphos!

I dont know what part of secluded utah you live in, but where I live, it is hardly like that. It all depends on how you look at it, or how ignorant you are. I live in a predominantly mormon neighborhood, and yes, when I first moved in, there was the knock on the door, and the missionaries did stop by. But after I politly told them no, I have yet to be asked to join. Sure, I get asked if we ever need help with stuff, but never to join, and that is after four years of living there.

So what if they start a meeting of with a prayer? Whats the difference in that, or putting my hand on the bible in court?
