99 Silverado towing/trailer lights

I just purchased my 99 silverado just a week ago. I need to tow a trailer however I cant find light hook ups. Do I need to install some sort of light harness in the back? How do i do that? Where do i get one?

Re: 99 Silverado towing/trailer lights

there should be a bundle of wires taped up under the rear of your truck off the main wire harness they even have labels on them.

Trailer lites

If your truck does NOT have the bundle of wires, which it should. You will have to purchase a stick tester and find out which wires are brakes, backup, turn and so on. Then get crimp on buddy side by side type connectors and build a harness.

A company called Hopkins Automotive, "http://www.hopkinsmfg.com/" makes a small kit with the plug, socket, connectors and wire. I got one for $12.00 at the local Wallmart. Its a six pole round kit part number 48405. All you need is a few screw drivers a wire stick tester, and maybe a drill to mount the socket assymbly.

Have fun!
