a few questions

a guy i know is planning to buy a 89 non-turbo RX7 and it doesnt run. the guy who runs the dealership said it ran perfect untill one day it wouldnt start, and had no spark. i popped the hood and the first thing i noticed was the connector that goes on top of the alternator was disconnected. could that cause it to not have spark?

another thing, how hard and expensive would it be to add a turbo on it if we did all of the work except the ECM programming?

thanks.

thanks, but thats not it.

we took a look at it and tried the unflooding procedure with no luck.

i used a spark tester and got a TINY spark on the bottom right plug wire every once in a while, but i dont think that would be enough for it to fire. it was too cold (10 F) to check out the other wires right away.

we also checked the under hood fuses and they are all good.

think its a bad coil or something?

Re: a few questions

Well, that thing you said was unlplugged was the CAS (crank angle sensor) and it controls the spark.

Here is something else to try. I dont have the link handy, but I will post it later, but you can make ECU test lights. This could aid you in trouble shooting.

Also, there should be 2 sets of coils. Leading and trailing. If the one of the coils fails, you loose the spark for 2 plug wires.

There us also a fuse box under the dash on the drivers side. (USA) There is a 15 amp fuse for the engine that will blow and it will kill the ingnition and fuel. Its worth a try. I know someone that got an RX-7 for next to nothing and that was all that was wrong with it.

Good luck.
