1995 Ranger - Electrical problem

I need some help with this one...

Every time I step on the brake, with the engine running or not, the left turn signal light comes on and stays on. Both the front and rear turn signal lights come on. When I use the left turn signal, it works fine until I step on the brake.

I have checked the bulbs and swapped them, but nothing has changed. Anybody have any idea where the short might be?

were the connections of the wires altered in any way? first thing to always check is the connection of the terminals. there may also be something like a tap on the wires where the wires of the signal touch the wires of the brakes...or something like that.

The connections have not been altered. It does come and go every once in a while.

This is my disaster: I have a 95 Ranger XLT (6-cyc Auto). I bought this truck in May of 2002 (97,000 miles) and it was clean as a whistle. Easlier this year I had oil change & a cooling system flush/fill by a local Ford dealer. Next I had a transmission bracket replaced by the same dealer. In late spring it started to run a little rough, then it wouldn't go anywhere at all (it started, idled, but that's it). Subsquently, I was told that a transmission fluid resevoir in the radiator cracked and as a result I had to replace not only the radiator but the transmission (note: I had it rebuilt - not by teh dealer). Has anyone heard of this ever happening? If so how could the radiator have justed cracked on the inside? The truck has 111,000 miles on it. I'm interested to see if anyone else has had a similar tragedy.

in response to the electrical problem:
definately some type of short, check the wires as far as you can from the lights to the break light switch. it might be where the wires from both sides come together, somewhere underneath the cab or the front of the bed. is there an after-market hitch on the truck? ive known a few places that have a tendency to pinch the wires between the frame and the hitch

sounds like it could be the bulb in the rear has blown and is contacting the turnsignal circut.its cheap just try a new bulb.oh and try to clean the contacts too.
