where to get a used engine 90 STD
So where would a feller get a good running, reasonable mileage, used engine for a 90 Civic DX STD, and how much should he pay for it, and how bad is shipping?

not worth it. Might as well go for a vtec swap.

OOooooohkay....I knew this was gonna be a question I had to ask eventually...understand now this's just a $200 beater/daily driver type car we're talking about and all. What the hell's a Vtec?

Re: where to get a used engine 90 STD
Ahh you guys. I know the last Honda I bought is still running with just bare maintenance after 200k miles, 80k of which I put on it after buying it for $460. I know my wife's been driving them forever. I know I can get one with a bad head gasket for $200 this thanksgiving if I can fix the gasket well enough to drive it 600 miles three days later and I know they often smoke after the head gasket and valves are done SO it seems prudent to consider just throwin' a whole engine in there as an option. And I know how to do that. I know how to get a bonded title on it without more than a bill of sale, too. You boys just stand down a little, okay? It was just a rank amateur question and I thought maybe you could send me to cheaplowmileagehondaengines.com or something. Jeeez.

Re: Re: where to get a used engine 90 STD
I have one here in a local wrecking yard, 1.6L Si w/trans for $400, you'd have to pay shipping too... I think I heard that the splines on the tranny are different from the STD to the Si or other D-series, so you may end up having to change your trans too... Otherwise, I can get you a 1.5L VTEC motor for $550 shipped...

If you're looking for direct replacement engines, you have a couple of options:
D15B1 (what you have now) D15B2 D16A6 D15B7 SOHC ZC All of these will bolt right in and since there are five to choose from, you have a better chance of finding one. you can find those engines online (atleast the 1.6L versions, D16A6 and SOHC ZC) for about $500 shipped with around 30,000 miles on them. If you want cheaper still, you might check around your local scrapyards, or check ebay. |
