More boost on MSP?
How much more boost can the MSP engine handle, and about how much hp will more boost add?

Re: More boost on MSP?
Crank it up and find out
![]() I've heard of a well known DSM guy from NY named JoeP, and he cranked it harder than anyone else. He put down like 260 to the wheels, spiking at 21psi on race fuel and some serious tuning. He had stock internals/intercooler, 3" exhaust, and cone filter. I'll find out what mine is doing pretty soon.

Unfortunatly(sp?) I dont have one of these beautiful machines. I'll be turning 16 and getting a car soon, so I've been trying to decide what I should try to convince my parents to get. When I read that MSP's only run 6.9 psi I figured that with just a boost controller they would be a lot faster. Does anybody know how much hp an MSP will put down at the wheels stock, and how much more boost the engine can safely handle? I read in another thread that 10-12 would be fine. Also, since I'm a youngin, I'm not really sure what 'tuning' consists of...can somebody please explain?
On another note please check out my thread here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=157290 I made it to compare a MSP to a 2.5rs impreza Last edited by G35man; 11-25-2003 at 05:06 PM. |

Re: More boost on MSP?
minor side note... in reading the owners manual you will find that by turning the boost up warranty is voided

It doens't mention in the manual that the warranty in void if you crank up the boost... it simply mentions that any modifications will void it!
![]() This being said, a boost controller is an easy part to remove before going to see your dealer! There is no specific boost level at which you can go, but most people agree that if you don't have any other mods, you can up the boost to 9-10psi. If you change the intercooler, exhaust and intake, you can up the boost to 11-13psi. Keep in mind the there is a fuel cut a around 12psi, so if you want to crack it like JoeB, you will need a Fuel Cut Defender (FCD)... but I guess that there is a pretty good reason why Mazda put this fuel cut at 12psi!

Everything else is correct though. Oh, except it's JoeP, not JoeB.
