remote positive battery terminal -- hot!!!

I have a 1995 Cutlass Supreme. Lots of miles but runs well.
Took it Ottawa to Victoria and back this June (10000 km) with no problems.
Had new alternator last year and new battery before the trip. Well maintained with oil and filter every 4-5000KM. Have had trans filter and fluid replacement every 75000 KM.

In last week or so I've noticed the dash lights are getting dim, even when brightness cranked full on.

I checked around engine and fuses tonight. Fuses all fine. But remote positive battery terminal is very hot. Too hot to touch!

Has anyone had the problem or know what might be wrong?

I'm going to clean and retighten the connection, but not sure what is happening.

Thanks in advance. Any info would be appreciated.

Re: remote positive battery terminal -- hot!!!

Sounds like a high resistance connection (corrosion?)... Clean and tighten.

Re: remote positive battery terminal -- hot!!!

am no expert but it MIGHT be a loose connection. sometimes its just a loose connection at the ends of the terminals that may cause the heating. or MAY be too much current passing through i guess. correct me anyone...i may be wrong.

Re: remote positive battery terminal -- hot!!!

I took the connection apart and found that the plastic under the remote positive post is cracked. I can move it around a little.

Does anyone know if this connector, specifically the section with the post itself is replaceable?

It looks like the bottom section of this junction box will slide out of the main fuse box/connector.

Anyone know where I might get a picture/diagram of how this thing fits together?

I'll go to dealer to find part and info but it's Sunday and nothing is open today.

I did clean and tighten the connector form the battery to the remote post. I can move the whole plastic part containing the post and can see the light under the hood flicker. The post gets hot as well, but not as hot as yesterday.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Re: remote positive battery terminal -- hot!!!

Called GM dealer today; found that the post and connection block were separate pieces. The plastic piece with the post was $24 Cdn. 1 hour labour to replace it. Slam bam thank you ma'm $123 total including taxes. Runs cool, lights are bright --Problem solved
