grinding gears

Sometimes when i shift into first and second, it is hard to push in it, it feels like it is grinding. But this does not happen all the time, its only about half the time, other times it is VERY smooth, and goes right into gear. Could it be the syncros, i am not sure? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

Most likely synchros. If its a 1g, see the cable adjustment VFAQ. 2g is non adjustable. In the meantime, switch to BG synchroshift fluid if you havent already. Turbo cars use 2.3 quarts, and dont pay over 12 bucks per quart.

Re: grinding gears

1+2 both share the same sincro so it is possible that your sincro is going bad.Check your clutch fluid and if your clutch is good. oem sincro assemblys are available from dealers for about $150. 1+2 sincro is the hardest to replace because, to get to it you basicly have to dissasemble the hole tranny. It can be done you just have to be willing to do alot of work. A tranny shop will do it but it can get expensive.

1 amd 2 dont share the same synchro. The share the hub/slider and fork, but the actual synchros are completely seperate. But you are right about the rest.
